Design Technician – Engineering Design

Location: Nottingham. Employment: Full-Time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create detailed technical drawings and production-ready designs for a variety of signage types (illuminated, architectural, digital, totem, etc.).
  • Interpret design briefs, sketches, and architectural plans to develop engineering-focused solutions.
  • Collaborate with project managers, sales, production, and installation teams to ensure design feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and compliance.
  • Use CAD software to generate 2D and 3D drawings.
  • Apply structural design principles to ensure signage meets wind load, material strength, and mounting requirements.
  • Integrate lighting, wiring, and other technical components into signage design where applicable.
  • Produce comprehensive documentation including bill of materials (BOM), fabrication drawings, assembly instructions, and risk assessments.
  • Review and revise designs based on feedback from clients, engineers, and fabrication teams.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant health & safety, accessibility, and building regulations.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience in an engineering design or technical drafting role, preferably within the sign, construction, or manufacturing industry.
  • Proficient in CAD software.
  • Strong understanding of materials, fabrication methods, and structural design.
  • Knowledge of illumination techniques and integration.
  • Familiarity with signage standards and installation practices.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills to liaise with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Relevant qualifications in engineering design, product design, or a related technical field.
