INTERIM FINANCIAL CONTROLLER, 6mths

Pear Talent is representing a Financial Services business who have an excellent opportunity for an Interim Financial Controller (6mths) reporting to the CFO. You’ll lead a team in the UK and across Europe with ownership for all core financial reporting and controls, financial management and process improvement. This is a critical senior leadership appointment with regular interaction at both country and Group Exec, as well as an extensive business partnering content in order to understand and improve business performance.
You’ll have responsibility for leading complex financial, regulatory and management reporting, business financial performance management, as well as ensuring robust financial controls and adherence to technical accounting developments. It’s important that this person is used to partnering with senior stakeholders, managing external relationships (ie Auditors), as well as leading, developing and motivating teams. Additional experience leading organisational, operational or cultural change and transformation would be an advantage.
- Key member of the Finance leadership team contributing to wider Finance initiatives.
- Lead the month-end process including delivery and presentation of the monthly reporting pack for the CFO.
- Provide accurate commentary against budget and prior year performance.
- Ensure robust and effective control environment.
- Lead Finance change improvements, automation of processes and optimisation of systems.
- Key role in the annual budget and re-forecast process.
- Building strong relationships across the business to represent the Finance team’s interests in Group-wide projects, including the implementation of new strategies.
- Partner with external auditors to ensure smooth completion of Group and local audits.
- Ensure financial reporting is compliant with all policies and relevant accounting standards.
- Develop, mentor and coach a team of 10.
Required experience:
- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA or equivalent) with post-qualified experience gained in FS (ideally Insurance).
- Strong accounting knowledge (IFRS).
- Candidates from the Big4 FS/Insurance audit teams at an experienced Senior Manager/Director level also considered.
- Proven track record of managing Finance teams.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information simply to non-finance stakeholders.
- Comfortable leading engagement with auditors and Board/Exec stakeholders.
- Ability to quickly gain credibility at senior levels within the business and demonstrate both first class project management and communication skills.
- Able to liaise effectively across departments (Finance, IT, Risk, Tax, Treasury etc).
- Strong presentation skills and people skills, good influencer.
