We're partnered with a fast-moving technology business in Bristol that is entering a key delivery phase, with a go-live towards the end of May/start of June. They now need an experienced Linux Engineer to provide critical out-of-hours infrastructure support across their international capability, covering clients on different time zones (India & USA). This will be a night-shift focused role, likely around 9pm–7am, working onsite in Bristol on an initial 3–6 month contract (Inside IR35) with the option to move temp-to-perm if desired.
You'll be supporting Linux-based systems across hybrid cloud and on-prem environments, helping engineering teams keep core infrastructure running smoothly, securely and efficiently. Expect a mix of ticket-based support, hands-on troubleshooting, infrastructure maintenance and automation.
The role will cover:
- Supporting Linux environments across Debian and RedHat derivatives
- Handling Layer 1 and 2 support across core infrastructure services
- Working across DNS, DHCP, VPN, LDAP, networking and virtualisation platforms
- Supporting security patching, risk assessment and infrastructure best practice
- Maintaining Infrastructure-as-Code using tools such as Terraform, Puppet or Ansible
- Working closely with engineering teams across hybrid cloud and on-prem servers
We're looking for someone with strong Linux administration experience, solid troubleshooting skills and the confidence to support business-critical systems during quieter but essential overnight hours. You'll likely bring 3+ years in systems administration, strong networking fundamentals, hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, and exposure to VMware, KVM or similar virtualisation platforms. Experience with monitoring, containerisation, web servers, load balancers or Python would also be useful, but the priority is someone dependable, technically strong and comfortable taking ownership during the night shift.
If you're an experienced Linux Engineer looking for a hands-on contract where your work directly supports a major international rollout, this is a brilliant opportunity to step into a key support role at a pivotal time.
