An established industrial organisation is seeking an experienced Engineering & Fleet Workshop Manager to lead a busy maintenance function responsible for a large fleet of vehicles, mobile plant and engineering assets. This is a senior leadership role for a hands-on manager who can lead teams, improve workshop performance and ensure full fleet compliance in a fast-paced operational environment. Reporting to the General Manager, you will take full ownership of engineering operations, ensuring maximum fleet availability, compliance, cost control and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a multi-skilled engineering and workshop team
  • Oversee daily workshop and fleet maintenance operations
  • Ensure maximum availability of vehicles, plant and equipment
  • Manage planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules
  • Oversee reactive maintenance, breakdowns and repairs
  • Ensure compliance with LOLER, PUWER, COSHH and H&S legislation
  • Maintain fleet compliance standards and procedures
  • Monitor KPIs and operational performance
  • Drive continuous improvement across engineering performance
  • Manage workshop budgets, costs and expenditure control
  • Control stock, spares and workshop materials
  • Conduct fault finding and root cause analysis
  • Implement corrective actions for recurring defects
  • Maintain maintenance systems and engineering records (CMMS)
  • Liaise with suppliers, OEMs and contractors
  • Ensure workshop safety, standards and audit readiness
  • Lead training and development of technicians
  • Manage attendance, performance and workforce planning
  • Support recruitment and team development
  • Oversee maintenance planning and scheduling
  • Improve workshop efficiency and reduce downtime
  • Support asset lifecycle management and maintenance strategy
  • Maintain accurate maintenance documentation and compliance records
  • Drive cost reduction and efficiency initiatives
  • Report engineering performance to senior management
