The Role:
You will lead Council's human resources function, providing strategic and hands-on support across workforce planning, employee relations, recruitment, performance, policy and capability development. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer and directly supervises the Human Resources Officer, partnering with leaders across the organisation to deliver best-practice, contemporary people outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality, authoritative HR and workforce advice to the CEO and senior leaders.
- Lead employee relations, including Enterprise Bargaining, performance management and resolution of grievances/disciplinary matters.
- Oversee end-to-end recruitment and selection, onboarding and consistent induction practices.
- Develop and implement contemporary HR policies, procedures and workforce initiatives aligned to Council’s strategic direction.
- Drive learning, development and workforce capability planning, including the annual training plan.
- Lead sensitive investigations (e.g., bullying/harassment, misconduct, fraud) and advise on outcomes and actions.
- Contribute as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, supporting ethical practice and a positive workplace culture.
About You:
- Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Industrial Relations and/or Business Management (essential).
- 5–10 years’ management-level HR experience in local government or a similar complex organisation.
- Practical knowledge across recruitment, ER/IR, policy, performance management, workforce planning and capability development.
- A flexible, hands-on leader who is a team player and can build trust with leaders and frontline teams.
- Innovative and improvement-focused and able to design and embed initiatives that lift performance and culture.
- Genuine interest in remote/community living and contributing positively to a close-knit region.
