This is a relationship-centred role where your presence, communication and emotional awareness will make a genuine difference to a child’s confidence, independence and daily experience of school.
The Role
You will work closely with one pupil across the school day, supporting them in lessons, transitions, outdoor learning and social interactions. You will help them access learning, regulate emotions and build positive routines, while working collaboratively with the class teacher and SENDCo to adapt support to their individual needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the day
- Build a trusting, positive relationship that helps the child feel safe and understood
- Support learning in the classroom and during outdoor/creative activities
- Encourage communication, independence and positive peer interactions
- Assist with routines, transitions and emotional regulation
- Follow strategies outlined in the child’s support plan
- Observe progress and share insights with the teaching team
- Promote an inclusive, nurturing environment where every child can succeed
What Your First Month May Look Like
- Getting to know the child’s interests, routines and strengths
- Building trust through consistency, patience and encouragement
- Supporting classroom learning, outdoor exploration and creative projects
- Working with teachers and the SENDCo to understand the child’s support plan
- Helping the child grow in confidence with daily routines
- Celebrating moments of progress, independence and positive interaction
- Becoming a valued member of a warm, collaborative staff team
We Are Looking For Someone Who Is:
- Experienced in supporting children with Autism or additional needs
- Calm, patient, nurturing and emotionally attuned
- Observant, reflective and able to adapt their approach
- Confident communicating with children, families and colleagues
- Reliable, proactive and able to work collaboratively
- Committed to inclusive practice and child-centred support
- Comfortable supporting a primary-aged pupil (age 7) with ASC
- Able to maintain boundaries and provide consistent, structured support
Experience in schools, childcare, tutoring, youth work, care or residential settings is highly valued. GCSE Maths & English at Grade C (or equivalent) required. Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one) essential.
Why This Role Stands Out
- Opportunity to build a meaningful, long-term relationship with one child
- Work within a nurturing environment that values wellbeing as much as learning
- Join a passionate team committed to inclusive education
- Support a child to grow in confidence, independence and curiosity every day
- Temp-to-perm pathway with weekly pay and interviews taking place immediately
