We are currently working with a well-established groundworks and civil engineering contractor who is looking to appoint a Commercial Manager to lead their commercial team across Scotland. Based in Edinburgh, this is a key leadership role within the business, responsible for overseeing the commercial delivery of multiple projects and supporting the continued growth of the company. This opportunity would suit an experienced Commercial Manager or a Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to step into a leadership role, with a strong background in groundworks, infrastructure or civil engineering projects.
The Role
- As Commercial Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the commercial performance of projects across Scotland, leading the commercial team and ensuring projects are delivered in line with contractual, financial and operational objectives.
- You will work closely with operational teams, project managers and senior leadership to ensure strong commercial governance across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the commercial team across multiple groundworks and civil engineering projects
- Provide commercial oversight from project inception through to final account
- Ensure effective cost control, financial reporting and risk management
- Manage and review contracts, variations and subcontractor accounts
- Lead the preparation and review of commercial reports, forecasts and budgets
- Support project teams with contractual negotiations and dispute resolution
- Monitor project performance to ensure delivery against budget and programme
- Mentor and develop Quantity Surveyors and commercial staff
- Work closely with senior leadership to support business growth and commercial strategy
About You
- Proven experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor
- Strong background within groundworks, infrastructure or civil engineering projects
- Experience managing multiple projects and commercial teams
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts and commercial processes
- Excellent leadership, negotiation and communication skills
- Ability to manage commercial risk and deliver projects successfully
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline (preferred)
