I’m working with a highly regarded residential developer with an excellent reputation for quality, design and delivery, who are looking to appoint an Architect or Architectural Technologist into their Glasgow team to focus on their more bespoke residential developments. This is not a standard volume housebuilding role. The focus here is on higher value, design led projects where architecture matters, detail matters, and creating genuinely attractive places to live is a core part of the business.
As a result, they’re keen to speak to people coming from developer led backgrounds who have also worked on bespoke projects or private practice backgrounds who understand residential design at scale and can bring strong technical capability, design sensibility and commercial awareness to a client side role. You might be an Architect with a strong background delivering large residential schemes, mixed use developments or high quality housing projects, or an experienced Technologist with excellent technical knowledge and a real understanding of how good design is translated into buildable, coordinated information.
Either way, you’ll need to be someone who understands residential architecture properly, not just from a planning perspective, but through technical delivery and into construction. The role offers the opportunity to become deeply involved in projects from an early stage, helping shape design direction, working closely with consultants, reviewing proposals, coordinating technical information and ensuring schemes are delivered to the level of quality expected.
You’ll work across planning, engineering, construction and commercial teams internally, while also acting as a key voice in the design process externally. What makes this role particularly interesting is the nature of the work. These are not repetitive, standardised product led schemes. They are more bespoke developments where careful design thinking, placemaking, architectural quality and technical excellence all play an important role.
For someone currently in practice who enjoys residential work but is frustrated by long fee cycles, limited influence, or being one step removed from decision making, this offers the chance to sit client side and have genuine input into what gets built. The business itself is incredibly well established, professional and ambitious, with an unmatched reputation in the market and a clear commitment to quality.
They’re ideally looking for someone who enjoys being around the team and collaborating in person, so this role is best suited to somebody comfortable with an office based environment in Glasgow. Salary is likely to fall in the region of £50,000 to £65,000 depending on experience, alongside a strong wider package. For the right person, this is an opportunity to step into a commercially smart, design focused client side role while staying close to the architecture that drew you into the profession in the first place.
