We’re working exclusively with a highly respected design and build business in the Highlands on a key senior appointment - a Design Manager role that sits firmly at leadership level and offers genuine influence over projects, people, and the future direction of the company. This is not a corporate box ticking role. Nor is it one for someone who wants to sit behind a screen and produce drawings in isolation. This is for someone who wants to lead.
Our client delivers architecturally ambitious buildings in some of Scotland’s most spectacular locations. Their work is design led, technically challenging, and built with genuine pride in craftsmanship. They have built an excellent reputation for quality and now they are looking for the right person to help shape what comes next.
You’ll take ownership of design from concept through to completion, leading projects across all stages while ensuring design quality is protected throughout delivery. You’ll oversee technical output, coordinate consultants, work closely with construction teams on site, and act as a trusted point of contact for clients. You’ll also manage and mentor an internal design team, helping develop capability while setting standards across the business.
But this role goes beyond project delivery. You’ll have a seat at the table in helping shape strategic growth - influencing how the business evolves, identifying opportunities, supporting business development, and playing a meaningful part in long term leadership. For the right person, there is a clearly defined route toward Associate Director level, including the opportunity to acquire shares in the business against agreed milestones. That’s rare. And worth paying attention to.
We’re keen to speak with experienced architectural professionals - ideally with 8-10 years post qualification experience - who combine strong design instincts with commercial awareness, leadership capability, and the confidence to take ownership. A background in high end residential, bespoke housing, or similarly design sensitive sectors would be particularly relevant, though broader experience will also be considered where there is clear alignment.
You’ll need to be comfortable making decisions, leading from the front, and operating in an entrepreneurial environment where accountability is real and relationships matter. This is a visible position with genuine responsibility, but equally, genuine reward. It also requires someone who will embrace the lifestyle that comes with it. Projects are spread across the Highlands and Islands, often in remote and spectacular settings and so travel is part of the role.
