Due to a strong pipeline of secured work, an established main contractor is looking to appoint an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join its growing commercial team in Glasgow. With several major projects due to commence over the coming months, this is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Assistant QS to gain exposure to major construction projects, develop their commercial experience and progress their career within an established main contractor.
The Opportunity
Your first project will be a major refurbishment and repurposing project in Glasgow, involving a newly constructed, previously unoccupied building with a value of over £80 million. The project is due to commence at the beginning of October and has an anticipated programme of 24 months. Following this project, there will be opportunities to gain experience across a variety of high-profile construction projects throughout the Glasgow area.
The Role
Working closely with an experienced Senior/Project Quantity Surveyor, you'll support the commercial management of the project while developing your skills across the full project lifecycle. Responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the commercial management of projects from pre-construction through to completion
- Assisting with the procurement and management of subcontractor packages
- Preparing valuations, applications for payment and variations
- Assisting with cost reporting, forecasting and financial tracking
- Supporting change control and risk management
- Assisting with subcontractor payments and final accounts
- Reviewing costs, variations and commercial information
- Working closely with site and operational teams
- Liaising with clients, consultants and subcontractors
- Gaining hands-on experience across all aspects of Quantity Surveying
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience within a Quantity Surveying role, ideally with a main contractor
- Relevant experience within the construction industry
- Degree/HND/HNC in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline
- Good understanding of commercial and contractual processes
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Good communication and organisational skills
- A willingness to learn and develop within a busy commercial team
- JCT experience would be advantageous but is not essential
