A well-established sustainability and built environment consultancy is making a deliberate investment in growing its UK presence, with Scotland and Glasgow at the centre of that strategy. As part of this growth, they are seeking a Strategic Sustainability Director to take a leading role in shaping, growing, and ultimately owning the sustainability offering. This is not a delivery-only role. It is a senior, commercially focused leadership position with genuine influence over strategy, people, and growth.
The Opportunity

- Play a key role in business development, client relationships, and market positioning
- Shape service lines, identify diversification opportunities, and drive long-term profitability
- Build, manage, and develop high-performing teams
- Act as a trusted advisor to clients, senior stakeholders, and the board
You will work closely with Directors and the Managing Director, contributing directly to company-wide strategy, financial performance, and future direction.
Key Responsibilities
- Business Development & Growth
- Drive lead generation and sales activity across sustainability and ESG services
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships
- Represent the business at industry events, networks, and professional forums
- Identify and pursue new market opportunities and partnerships
- Commercial & Financial Leadership
- Take responsibility for financial performance, KPIs, and growth targets
- Support cashflow forecasting, invoicing, and commercial risk management
- Manage overheads, margins, and resourcing to ensure sustainable profitability
- Leadership & Operations
- Lead teams and act as Project Lead on key commissions
- Support recruitment, performance management, and professional development
- Maintain high standards of quality, compliance, and governance across projects
- Quality, Compliance & Governance
- Ensure projects meet internal quality, profitability, and regulatory standards
- Uphold ISO, Health & Safety, and internal systems compliance
- Report regularly to the Managing Director and Board
About You
- Operating at Director, Associate Director, or Practice Lead level
- Commercially minded, with a strong track record in winning work and growing services
- Comfortable managing people, budgets, and senior stakeholders
- Technically credible within sustainability, ESG, carbon, or climate-related services
- A natural leader who enjoys building teams and shaping strategy
- Chartership or relevant professional membership is expected, along with a commitment to maintaining CPD.
