A forward-thinking engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their Edinburgh team. The role is ideal for a proficient, self-motivated engineer with strong technical knowledge, excellent time management, and a track record of consistent project delivery. The successful candidate works well independently, while collaborating effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake mechanical design and consultancy work, including system design, production, specifications, schedules, and client reports.
- Represent the consultancy in meetings with clients and external consultants, acting as a key point of contact.
- Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring client requirements are met.
- Support and train junior staff, reviewing workloads and prioritising tasks.
- Check the accuracy and adequacy of documentation produced by others.
- Apply and maintain quality system procedures and comply with ISO and relevant national legislation.
- Manage projects, including trainee staff organisation, scheduling, and delivery to time and cost requirements.
- Record man-hour commitments, monitor project budgets, and report project fee information regularly.
- Comply with security procedures and confidentiality requirements.
Education & Experience
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (BEng Hons preferred).
- Chartered or working towards Chartership (IMechE / CIBSE).
- Competent in AutoCAD, with knowledge of Revit.
- Minimum engineering HNC/HND or equivalent qualification.

- Technically competent engineer with strong project management and financial control skills.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and time management.
- Ability to work independently while supporting and mentoring others.
