A respected building services and construction contractor with a strong presence across Scotland is looking to appoint an experienced Technical Author. The business delivers complex projects across healthcare, education, commercial, industrial, and public-sector frameworks, and requires dedicated support to produce high-quality handover documentation aligned to industry and statutory requirements.

You will play a key role in producing fully compliant Operating & Maintenance (O&M) Manuals for a wide range of Scottish construction projects. This includes NHS facilities, major education developments, commercial buildings, and public infrastructure schemes. You’ll be responsible for planning, compiling, coordinating, and delivering technical handover documentation that supports building lifecycle management and facilities operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver O&M Manuals for building fabric and M&E systems in line with industry standards such as BSRIA BG 26, BSRIA BG 54, ISO 19650, and Scottish Building Standards.
  • Liaise with design teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather as-built data, commissioning records, and technical submissions.
  • Ensure documentation meets framework-specific requirements (including HFS/NHS, SFT, HubCo, and private-sector frameworks).
  • Support integration of digital asset data with BIM models, including COBie and Asset Information Models (AIMs).
  • Conduct thorough quality reviews to ensure technical accuracy, consistency, and compliance across all deliverables.
  • Assist with project handover activities, including compiling client documentation and supporting presentations or aftercare information.

About You

  • HND/Degree in Building Services, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3–5 years’ experience producing O&M manuals or technical handover documentation.
  • Strong understanding of M&E systems, building fabric, construction processes, and digital workflows.
  • Familiarity with BSRIA, CIBSE, HFS, SFT, and other sector standards.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and document management systems (e.g., Aconex, Viewpoint, Asite).
  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to structure clear, compliant technical documents.
  • Strong organisational and coordination abilities, with the confidence to liaise at all project levels.

Desirable

  • Experience with BIM and ISO 19650 information management processes.
  • Understanding of Scottish Government or NHS procurement frameworks.
  • Knowledge of Net Zero, sustainability reporting, or public-sector carbon compliance requirements.

What’s on Offer

  • Competitive salary 45,000–60,000 DOE.
  • Benefits including EV salary sacrifice scheme, Cycle to Work Scheme, and company pension.
  • 26 days annual leave.
  • Opportunities to work on a diverse range of high-profile Scottish projects.
  • Professional development in BIM, digital asset management, and structured handover documentation.
  • Supportive, collaborative team culture with flexible hybrid working options.
