Are you someone who loves to greet people with a smile and make them feel at ease? We are looking for friendly, compassionate volunteers to join our reception team at our outpatients building in St Albans.
Opportunity details
- Team: Facilities
- Likely hours: Monday mornings or Thursday afternoons. If you have some flexibility to cover other shifts from time to time that would be great.
As a valued member of our reception team, you will help everything run smoothly. Tasks may include:
- Giving visitors a warm, friendly welcome when they arrive
- Answering phone calls, taking messages and passing them on to the right people
- Helping visitors feel comfortable while they wait for appointments
- Signing visitors in and supporting general enquiries
- Accepting deliveries and donations (with support from staff)
- Keeping the reception and waiting area tidy and welcoming
- Helping with refreshments, directions and information
- Selling raffle tickets, lottery tickets or small shop items
Every interaction you have helps create a calm, reassuring experience for people visiting our hospice services.
Who we’re looking for
- You don’t need previous receptionist experience — we’re looking for someone who is:
- Friendly, approachable and calm
- A good listener with a reassuring manner
- Comfortable answering the phone and passing on messages
- Confident using basic IT (training provided)
- Sensitive to people who may be anxious or distressed
- Aged 18 or over
This is a fairly active role, involving moving around the reception and waiting areas. We’ll happily talk through any support or reasonable adjustments you might need.
