As an Environmental Operative – Street Scene at Peabody, you’ll play a vital role in keeping the Thamesmead community clean, safe and well maintained. You’ll be part of a hands‑on team delivering high‑quality environmental services, supporting a positive experience for residents and visitors every day. This is a physically active role where your commitment, teamwork and customer‑focused approach will be valued. You’ll work across local areas, following set cleaning schedules and responding to issues to help maintain a welcoming public environment.

What You’ll Do

  • Carry out street‑scene cleaning duties including litter picking, sweeping, bulk removals and bin emptying.
  • Remove hazardous waste safely, including drug‑related items, in line with procedures.
  • Work to established cleaning schedules, ensuring high standards of cleanliness.
  • Carry out graffiti removal using approved equipment and chemicals.
  • Undertake minor grounds tasks such as weeding and light pruning.
  • Identify and report issues outside of your direct control.
  • Build positive working relationships with colleagues to support effective service delivery.
  • Follow Peabody’s Health & Safety policies, ensuring your own safety and that of others.
  • Support additional Health & Safety duties such as Fire Warden or First Aider when required.

What You’ll Need

  • General experience in environmental or street‑cleansing work.
  • Basic knowledge of cleansing services gained through experience or training.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety in public and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to use a range of powered equipment, with willingness to train when required.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and politely with colleagues and members of the public.
  • Physical capability to carry out demanding outdoor work in varied conditions.
