Job Summary
The Supervisor Underground Maintenance is responsible for the day to day repair activities, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on all mine equipment to ensure the safe, economical and efficient operation of the machinery.
Key Responsibilities
- Visibly support and champion Peabody’s Missions and Values.
- Act in accordance with and adhere to Safety as a Way of Life Management System.
- Plan, direct and lead the work of a crew or team.
- Supervise maintenance and repair personnel by providing technical counsel and advice to the maintenance workers, answer questions on methods or materials to be used, check to observe workmanship and conformance to safety regulations.
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely maintenance records.
- Under the direction of Maintenance Manager, implement short-term and long-term maintenance planning, scheduling and forecasting.
- Assist the Maintenance Manager in the periodic review of maintenance and repair reports.
- Provide input into analyzing costs for potential improvements.
- Assist in the monitoring and maintaining the proper flow of parts and inventory.
- Analyze failed components for failure reasons and then make changes to eliminate or lessen chances of repeat failures.
- Keep Maintenance Manager and/or Mine Management advised of work progress, job completions and results.
- Evaluate the efforts of workforce and train them in areas of weakness.
- Keep abreast of latest maintenance methods and equipment through technical publications and vendor representatives.
- Monitor maintenance employee work performance and operating conditions to ensure the prevention of accidents consistent with company safety objectives and applicable State and Federal regulations.
- Make recommendations for equipment changes or replacements.
- Supervise equipment change/upgrade efforts and any replacement/relocation activities.
- Ensure activities comply with safety, environmental and statutory requirements.
- Other duties as assigned by the company.
Experience
2 years of experience maintaining heavy diesel equipment required.
Physical Requirements
Surface Environment
- Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift.
- Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.
- Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders.
- Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA.
- Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination.
- Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 – 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the work shift.
- Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area.
- Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays).
Underground Environment
- Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces for up to the entire length of the shift.
- Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.
- Must have the ability to walk for up to 4 hours at a time.
- Will be required to walk through different sections of the mine with varying degrees of clearance and headroom.
- Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA.
- Must have the ability to bend or stoop for a full work period as a result of mine height.
- Must have the ability to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on/off equipment and ladders.
- Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs and good hand to eye coordination.
- Must have the ability to lift 25 – 50 lbs. on a frequent basis and the ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 80 lbs.
- Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light/dark, in and around artificial light, and in a confined work area.
- Must have the ability to work various shifts (required shifts include days, evening and nights, with rotating schedules, weekends and holidays).
Office
- Must have the ability to sit for up to 8 hours.
- Must be able to use a computer and communicate effectively in various forms, including email and by phone.
- Must have the ability to review paper and electronic documents and complete computer entry of data from paper documents.
- Must be able to find, remove and return files to/from file cabinets and discuss issues by telephone and in person.
- Must be able to operate copier, fax machine, etc.
Education
High School Degree or GED Equivalent required. Trade certification(s) required.
