Overview
Makes precise measurements to determine property boundaries. Provides data relevant to the shape and contour of the Earth’s surface for engineering and construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Performs field work related to performing all types of surveys, including boundary surveys, construction layout, topographic mapping, planimetric mapping, corridor surveys and high accuracy control networks.
- Accurately runs and adjusts survey instruments including GPS, robotic total stations, level and other electronic measuring devices with electronic data collecting capabilities.
- Performs mathematical calculations. Reads and understands survey map data and construction plans.
- Takes accurate and legible survey notes and performs simple note reduction and checking.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education, Licenses and Certifications
- A high school education or equivalent is required, including a background in math, geometry and trigonometry.
Knowledge and Experience
- 5 years of experience operating survey instruments and collecting information in the field and performing field computations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles of survey measurement, staking and marking.

Fieldwork involves working outdoors in all types of weather, walking long distances, and standing for extended periods while measurements are taken. While performing these duties, an employee is frequently required to sit; talk; hear; stand; walk; use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.
Availability
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., overtime and weekends as required.
Travel
As a part of performing this position’s duties, travel will be required to respective job sites in the Southeast Michigan Area and throughout the United States.
