PE Global is currently recruiting for a Wheat Crop Scientist for a leading multi-national FMCG client based in Reading. This is a part-time contract position based in Reading. Pay rate is £32.80 per hour - £41.03 per hour depending on experience.

The R&D team is seeking an experienced and passionate agronomist to help drive the sustainability of the raw ingredients (wheat flour) used in the manufacture of our products. The role will be liaising with external partners to help evaluate and deploy technologies and practices with our supply-chain partners.

  • Proactively manage and develop existing multi-partner collaborative projects aimed at improving the sustainability of our wheat flour supply.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to ensure R&D programme aligns with commercial sourcing requirements, quality specifications and environmental footprint requirements.
  • Must have excellent knowledge of plant breeding and agronomy, preferably in wheat or other cereals.
  • Experience in managing projects that meet the requirements through involving both external R&D collaborators and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to understand complex needs within the supply chain from the perspective of farmers, millers, internal procurement and bakers to ensure implementation of change.
  • Ability to analyse biological data and produce robust conclusions on the outcome of research.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Excellent organization skills and multi-project management.

An advanced degree (PhD) in the field relevant to the plant sciences and at least five years’ experience in the field of plant breeding or agronomy. High level of proficiency in English (essential) and French (desirable).
