PE Global is currently recruiting for a Controls Systems Engineer for a leading multi-national manufacturing client based in Peterlee. This is an initial 12 month contract position based on site 5 days a week. This position is responsible for supporting manufacturing controls systems, ensuring robust performance of production equipment through software support, diagnostics, machine tuning, and validation activities within a fast-paced factory environment.

Duties of the role/Responsibilities:

  • Deliver controls and software support for manufacturing operations
  • Diagnose and resolve equipment control system issues to minimise downtime
  • Support commissioning, testing, and tuning of production machinery
  • Develop a clear understanding of production procedures, analyse them, and drive continuous improvement
  • Execute software updates, fault finding, and system optimisation
  • Support validation and performance verification activities
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing and maintenance teams
  • Maintain accurate documentation of changes, testing, and issue resolution

Education/Experience:

  • Degree in Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, or related discipline
  • Experience in industrial control systems and automation
  • Knowledge of embedded control systems
  • Demonstrated capability in fault diagnosis and root cause analysis
  • Experience with Off-Highway Trucks (OHT) or heavy machinery is highly advantageous
  • Understanding of J1939 CAN/Ethernet communications, sensors, actuators, and real-time systems highly advantageous
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills
  • Hands-on approach within a manufacturing environment and a proving ground
  • Effective communication and collaboration across teams
  • Focus on quality, reliability, and continuous improvements
