Customs Administrator

12-Month Contract | Stafford | Β£14.80 per hour

PE Global is currently recruiting for an experienced Customs Administrator on behalf of a leading global manufacturing organisation. This is an excellent opportunity to join a large-scale engineering and manufacturing environment in Stafford on an initial 12-month contract, supporting the smooth and compliant movement of goods across international borders.

About the Role

As a Customs Administrator, you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day import and customs activity at the Stafford facility. Working closely with freight forwarders, customs brokers and internal stakeholders, you will ensure imports are cleared accurately and compliantly while helping to avoid disruption to delivery schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide timely and accurate clearance instructions to Customs Brokers, ensuring UK customs guidelines and deadlines are met.
  • Manage and review import documentation, checking for accuracy, completeness and consistency across information sources.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to resolve queries, obtain additional documentation and address discrepancies.
  • Calculate applicable customs duties and identify opportunities for duty savings where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records, logs and files relating to import documentation to support HMRC and company audits.
  • Build strong working relationships with key stakeholders and maintain compliance metrics.
  • Identify and report non-compliant cases.
  • Escalate relevant customs and compliance issues to the Customs Compliance Supervisor.
  • Coordinate classification requests.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve and optimise customs procedures.

You will have:

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, including basic formulas, pivot tables, formatting and charts.
  • Experience working within a large or complex organisation.
  • Experience within an organisation buying and/or selling products globally.
  • Understanding of Incoterms.
  • Previous experience in an import/export, customs or logistics environment.
  • Experience working with CDS (Customs Declaration Service).
