PE Global is recruiting for an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join a leading global manufacturer within the heavy equipment sector. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to both New Product Introduction (NPI) and Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) programmes, working alongside global engineering teams, suppliers, and manufacturing stakeholders.
Location: Peterlee, County Durham
Contract: 12 Months (Potential Extension)
Hours: 36.5 hours per week
Shift: Monday–Thursday: 8:00am–4:30pm | Friday: 8:00am–12:30pm (some flexibility available)
Rate: Up to £40.38 per hour PAYE
The Opportunity
As a Senior Design Engineer within the Hydraulic Installation team, you will be responsible for designing and developing hydraulic installation systems that deliver exceptional performance, durability, quality, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop hydraulic installation systems using Creo CAD.
- Produce high-quality engineering solutions that meet performance, durability and manufacturing requirements.
- Carry out basic structural analysis using Creo Simulate/Pro-Mechanica.
- Release engineering designs through Teamcenter and manage engineering changes using PLM processes.
- Lead complex engineering projects, ensuring deliverables are achieved on time and to a high standard.
- Drive engineering excellence through continuous improvement and defect prevention initiatives.
- Collaborate with global engineering teams across multiple disciplines.
- Support manufacturing and operations by resolving design issues and identifying improvement opportunities.
- Work directly with suppliers on new component development and design revisions.
- Interpret hydraulic schematics and support machine integration activities.
- Occasional travel (less than 5%) may be required for supplier or manufacturing site visits.
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related discipline (candidates with 25+ years of directly relevant experience may be considered without a degree).
- Minimum of 9 years’ experience in engineering design, validation, or simulation.
- Strong experience designing in Creo.
- Good understanding of hydraulic systems and/or machine integration.
- Experience working within a structured product development environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across global, cross-functional teams.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Desirable Experience
- Experience in any of the following would be highly advantageous:
- Hydraulic installation engineering.
- Heavy equipment, construction, mining, quarrying or industrial machinery.
- Automotive fluid systems or mechanical design.
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using Creo Simulate/Pro-Mechanica.
- Teamcenter or Windchill PLM systems.
- New Product Introduction (NPI) methodologies.
- Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) processes.
- Working within large OEM manufacturing environments.
