PE Global is currently recruiting for a Senior Design Engineer for a leading multi‑national manufacturing client based in Peterborough. This is an initial 24‑month contract position working fully on site.

Working hours: Mon - Thurs 08:30 - 16:45; Fri 08:30 - 16:15.

Pay Rate: £35.37ph PAYE or £48.01ph Umbrella.

Our client cannot assist with any visa sponsorship; candidates must have the correct visa to live and work in the UK.

Responsibilities:

  • Focused on design solutions to address challenging requirements, from projects within New Product Introduction.
  • Act as an experienced contributor on complex assignments, working with individuals and teams across global manufacturing sites, suppliers, and customers.
  • Design and packaging of engine components such as major aluminium and cast iron castings, geartrain, valvetrain, drivetrain, and in‑cylinder components.
  • Input to system design development for the breather, cooling, FEAD & lubrication system.
  • Work in a multi‑disciplined global team to ensure solutions meet customer, durability, and functional requirements.
  • Develop strong relationships with suppliers.
  • Plan and manage project and sub‑project deliverables, with the ability to lead.
  • Conduct risk assessment through effective FMEA generation on components and systems to identify and address design risks and determine validation needs.
  • Generate and conduct design reviews to gain wider approval.
  • Maintain communication to peers, team leaders, and stakeholders with progress against planned activities.
  • Develop drawings.
  • Work with suppliers using APQP methodology and tools.

Qualifications:

  • Expert level of expertise in complex CAD geometry using CREO10.
  • 3–5 years of experience in internal combustion engines, diesel, and off‑highway diesel.
  • Solid understanding of the requirements of systems that interact with these components, such as rotating systems, valvetrain, lubrication, breather, cooling systems, bolted joints, and sealing.
  • Strong understanding of casting and machining processes related to casting of complex cast iron components.
  • Minimum of 6 years design experience in CAD.
  • Strong technical background (HNC or technical degree preferred in mechanical or automotive engineering); other qualifications or experience are equally valued.
  • Good understanding of component manufacturing principles & processes.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing assembly principles.
  • Design knowledge of engine and mechanical components and systems.
  • Knowledge and usage of Team Centre—or similar data management software—is advantageous.
  • Experience running and participating in FMEA is advantageous.
  • Experience gained in the off‑highway diesel or machine sector is advantageous.
