About you

We're looking for a Veterinary Care Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team at Leicester. You'll be passionate about animal welfare, committed to delivering excellent client care, and enjoy working in a busy hospital environment where no two days are the same.

As a Veterinary Care Assistant, you'll play a vital role in supporting the clinical team and ensuring the highest standards of patient care. Your responsibilities will include maintaining a clean, safe and hygienic hospital environment, assisting with animal handling, supporting Veterinary Nurses and Veterinary Surgeons, and helping to deliver an excellent experience for our clients and their pets. You'll also support reception activities when required and confidently discuss treatment costs and charitable contributions with empathy and professionalism.

To be successful, you'll need:

  • A Veterinary Care Assistant Level 2 Diploma (or equivalent qualification).
  • Previous experience working within a veterinary practice.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • A caring, practical and proactive approach.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.

Due to the varied shift pattern, applicants must be aged 18 years or over.

Work pattern & rota

This role follows a continental shift pattern across a seven-week rolling rota, including a combination of days, nights, twilight shifts and weekends.

PDSA Leicester isa highly collaborative, effective hospital, a great place for teamwork, case discussion and shared learning. Our teams have varied clinical interests, giving you access to a wide pool of knowledge and experience when discussing cases and treatment plans.

Our Pet Hospitals are modern and well-equipped and include separate dog and cat kennelling facilities, in-house radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, piped gases and extensive orthopaedic equipment.
