PDS Tech Commercial is seeking a skilled Fabrication Associate / Manual Machinist to support an industry-leading organization at its pump repair and fabrication facility in Norfolk, VA. This is an exciting opportunity to work with specialized equipment, tackle complex machining projects, and contribute to critical industrial operations in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Location: Norfolk, VA | 100% Onsite

Schedule: Monday-Friday | First Shift | 6:00 AM-2:30 PM (seasonal schedule; standard hours 7:00 AM-3:30 PM)

Pay Rate: Starting at $22.00 per hour

What You'll Do: As a Fabrication Associate, you'll play a vital role in manufacturing, repairing, and restoring precision pump components and assemblies. Your expertise will directly support operational efficiency, quality standards, and customer satisfaction.

  • Manufacture and repair components according to engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain manual machine shop equipment, including Vertical Turning Lathes (VTL), Horizontal Boring Mills (HBM), Horizontal Lathes, Milling Machines, and additional machine shop equipment as needed.
  • Perform precision machining operations while maintaining tight tolerances up to .0005".
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, work orders, and production schedules.
  • Use precision measuring instruments such as Vernier calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools.
  • Conduct incoming and outgoing inspections to verify quality and specification compliance.
  • Operate overhead cranes and perform rigging activities safely and effectively.
  • Support pump teardown, repair, reassembly, and related fabrication activities.
  • Complete required production, inspection, and quality documentation accurately.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and make adjustments to maintain quality standards.
  • Follow all safety procedures related to machining, material handling, lifting equipment, and shop operations.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 5 years of manual machining experience.
  • Proven ability to operate manually controlled machine tools, including lathes and milling machines.
  • Strong blueprint reading and technical drawing interpretation skills.
  • Experience performing precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Understanding of machining calculations, shop mathematics, tolerances, feeds, speeds, and cutting tool applications.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of machining and repair operations independently.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Comfortable working in an environment with evolving processes and changing priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with pump repair, fabrication, or rotating equipment.
  • Welding experience.
  • Experience operating overhead cranes and rigging equipment.
  • Familiarity with VTLs, horizontal boring machines, and other heavy industrial machining equipment.
  • Experience creating fixtures, tooling, or machining solutions with minimal supervision.

Pay Details: $22.00 per hour.
