JOB – Health & Safety Officer (H&S) OVERVIEW - Looking for people that have worked within:- Heavy Engineering / Plant Equipment / Earthmoving / HGV / Trailers / Utility Vehicles / Mining Equipment / Military Vehicles / Agricultural Machinery / Coachbuilders OR MoD/Army workshops After many years building a strong reputation of and forging its brand within heavy duty engineered products within the commercial sector the company are now realising rapid growth with the MoD/Defence market supplying multiple solutions to the British Army. Just over a year ago the highly successful and expanding company bought out and took over this company which has led to MAJOR investment in its Staff numbers expanding rapidly across most of the departments and strategic role to extend further the professional dynamic of this organisations growth plan including opening a new factory in on the Wiltshire boarders. I have met with the CEO and Senior Management team who are very genuine and committed people, I have to also say I get a genuine feeling that they “care” about the people and are keen to hand any person who is the loyal/reliable and hard-working type, an opportunity to forge there own prospects in any direction they wish. This is not a “SALES PITCH”..this is one of those very rare and genuine opportunities in life…they have a recruitment/salary spend of over £1 Million pound by the end of this first full year of 2025. We are looking for an organised and knowledgeable Health and Safety Advisor to work alongside the current incumbent as they step back from being the lead contact within the company. The successful candidate will ideally be IOSH qualified to Certificate level and have experience of working in a similar industry with knowledge of the hazards associated with fitting, painting and welding activities which form part of building and manufacturing large trailers. Additionally, we are seeking candidates with experience in improving organisational safety culture and engagement amongst employees and the wider company environment. You will have the opportunity to bring your ideas to life, directly shaping safety practices and driving positive cultural change. Responsibilities Ensuring the sites are compliant with both UK legislation and in line with wider Group strategy for Health, Safety and Environment Implementing Health and Safety policies and procedures on site, ensuring compliance and keeping up-dated on key changes to legislation To provide Health and Safety advice to employees across a range of areas within the company Conducting Toolbox Talks and employee Health and Safety inductions, identifying when follow up/refresher training is required To deliver clear and practical advice on a day to da basis in person, on the phone and through e-mail Auditing Health, Safety and Environment performance, accurately reporting and investigating any incidents, accidents or near misses Delivering Risk Assessments across the site whilst accurately reporting on health and safety performance Visiting different sites and engaging with managers, ensuring responsibilities are clear and answering technical Health and Safety related questions Engaging with key internal and external stakeholders including senior management, operational staff and external regulators Attendance and contribution at company meetings, providing up-dates and data on key areas including accident reporting, RIDDOR, etc. Leading on new initiatives and always seeking opportunities to improve and develop Health, Safety and Environment performance Essential Requirements * Proven experience in a similar role, ideally with heavy industrial or manufacturing background * Experience of Accident Investigation. IOSH Managing/Working Safely. * NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent) * Experience of reviewing and writing Risk Assessment and Method Statement (RAMS) * A hands-on visible approach with the ability to be present across the site and actively engage with employees and teams at all levels * Excellent communication skills with proven experience engaging colleagues and a wide range of stakeholders * Good organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities * Computer literacy with the ability to use Microsoft Office and MS Teams * A strong technical knowledge across relevant Health, Safety and Environment * An enthusiastic, positive and proactive attitude towards health and safety best practices Desirable Requirements Member of IOSH Professional Body Understanding of The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR) What We offer Competitive salary, opportunities for career advancement 20 days (Being reviewed) holiday, plus bank holidays and days gifted at Christmas Life insurance Pension Free on-site parking
