PDMS Group have an exciting opportunity for a Procurement and Materials Lead to join our procurement team focusing on our UK business. This role is available on a long-term, on-going contract basis and can be based in our Aberdeen, Glasgow or Grangemouth office on a flexible hybrid working model. Our clients are operating in the Energy space both onshore and offshore. We are looking for someone that has experience in leading teams and has a focus on continuous improvement within the Procurement Function.
The Procurement & Materials Lead is responsible for leading the end-to-end procurement and materials management function, ensuring all items and materials are sourced, controlled, expedited, and delivered to specification, budget, and schedule.
Responsibilities:- Lead the Procurement team (Buyers, Expeditors, Materials Coordinators), ensuring all items/materials are procured and delivered safely, compliantly, and on time.
- Develop and implement procurement and material management strategies to optimise cost, schedule, stockholding, and delivery performance.
- Manage supplier selection, bid reviews, vendor assessments, contract award formalities, and commercial negotiations.
- Ensure inventory control and accurate materials records (received / stored / issued / used), producing status reports for project teams.
- Coordinate logistics for transport and delivery to onshore and offshore sites, including client delivery requirements.
- Monitor supplier inspection invitations, manage supplier close-out meetings, and drive vendor quality improvement via RCA and preventative actions.
- Work with Engineering to support material requisition development and ensure technical/spec compliance.
- Track material/procurement costs and schedule performance, report deviations, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with industry codes/standards, client specifications and statutory instruments.
- Mentor, train, and performance-manage direct reports and ensure competency requirements are met.
- Responsible for ensuring professional development is maintained and identified competency requirements are undertaken in a timely manner.
- Adherence to the company integrated management system.
- Compliance with quality assurance, health and safety and environmental policies.
- Demonstrate and promote PDMS QHSE principles and lead by example.
- Ensure unsafe activities are challenged.
- Adherence to the requirements of the best practice standards recommendations and processes in the undertaking of duties, in particular, risk assessment and control, reliability and failure prevention necessary to ensure the safe design, provision and use of tools, equipment and systems.
- Demonstrate and promote PDMS values and lead by example.
- Ensure direct report performance reviews are carried out within the required timescales (where applicable).
Qualifications:
- HND in a business or technical subject.
- CIPS Level 3 or equivalent.
- Membership of a recognised professional body (preferred).
Experience / competence:
- Demonstrable experience in a similar role.
- A good understanding of technical specs and drawings.
- Financial and contractual awareness coupled with sound commercial judgement.
- Exposure to People Management / Experience in managing and developing others.
- Competent in the use of MS Office applications.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
