We are seeking a Graduate Piping Engineer to join our Topsides Engineering team. The Graduate Piping Engineer will participate in PDi’s 2-year graduate training scheme “PDInspire”. The purpose of the scheme is to provide a structured platform for development and learning, ensuring a strong technical foundation in piping engineering within a brownfield modifications environment and supporting progression towards Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status. The supervised graduate programme combines on-the-job assignments on live UKCS brownfield modification projects with structured internal and external training. During the 2-year graduate training period, the graduate may gain exposure to multiple disciplines (Process, Mechanical, Structural, E&I, Technical Safety, Topsides Project Engineering) to develop an understanding of multi-discipline interfaces within topsides engineering delivery.

Reports to: Lead Piping Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working under the supervision of the Lead Piping Engineer and assigned mentor, the responsibilities of the Graduate Piping Engineer generally include, but are not limited to:
  • Assisting in the delivery of piping engineering scopes for brownfield modifications projects across UKCS assets
  • Supporting the development of piping deliverables such as:
    • Engineering Cost Time Resource (Estimates)
    • Planning and scheduling
    • Bid / Package Enquiries
    • Datasheets
    • Isometrics
    • Supports
    • SP Items
    • P&IDs
    • MTO / BOMs
  • Assisting with review of vendor documentation and integration of vendor packages into piping design
  • Supporting clash checks and constructability reviews within existing facilities
  • Participating in red‑line incorporation and As‑Built updates
  • Assisting with site queries (SQs) and technical clarifications during procurement and fabrication phases
  • Supporting offshore survey activities where required (i.c site surveys, and preparation of survey SOW and post‑survey reports)
  • Assisting in the preparation of technical input to proposals and tender submissions
  • Preparing technical notes, calculations (under supervision), and reports
  • Participating in client meetings and internal discipline reviews
  • Ensuring all activities are carried out in accordance with company procedures, project requirements, and applicable codes and standards
  • Actively participating in HSE initiatives and maintaining awareness of safe design principles within brownfield environments
  • Completing all required modules of the PDInspire Graduate Training Scheme

The Graduate Piping Engineer shall demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and a proactive approach to learning at all times when representing the company internally and externally.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Essential:
    • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
    • Strong organisational and administrative skills
    • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
    • Attention to detail
    • Competent in Microsoft Office applications
  • Desirable:
    • Awareness of piping codes and standards (e.g. ASME, API, BS EN ISO, ASTM)
    • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Navisworks, or 3D modelling environments
    • Understanding of brownfield constraints and onshore/offshore oil and gas working environments

Qualifications:

University degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSc/BEng with honours, MEng or equivalent)
