PCT Education Services is an independent special needs provision. The schools support a range of needs, including Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) leading to challenging behavioural needs. Our core aim is to provide an ambitious well-rounded curriculum that meets all our pupils’ needs, regardless of their starting point.

PCT Education Services offers full-time education and therapeutic support to vulnerable children across Norfolk and Suffolk. We support pupils aged 11-16 (soon to be 11-19) with emotional and mental health needs that cannot be adequately supported in mainstream schools. All PCT Education schools have trauma-informed practices embedded across the curriculum. PCT Education’s staff are given training and support to develop the use of these skills in their day to day working.

All PCT Education Services’ leadership team members are responsible personally and collectively for supporting pupils in becoming confident individuals, successful learners, and responsible citizens. This is achieved by:

To provide inspirational and visionary leadership and to be responsible for the day-to-day operational management of Sequentis House Vocational Centre. Ensure that PCT Education’s aims and objectives for the school are implemented in accordance with the schools’ policies and relevant national and local education strategies. Promoting the highest possible outcomes for all pupils regardless of their starting point.

Deputy Headteachers' Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver and sustain educational excellence in teaching and learning throughout the school and more widely as part of PCT Education.
  • Take responsibility as a member of the senior management team and the representative on-site for the day-to-day operation of the school.
  • Work closely with the Executive Principal and the SLT to implement and monitor the strategic vision.
  • Support and mentor staff to be the best they can be through structured supervision and setting targets, and, when appropriate, holding people accountable.
  • Have responsibilities for key elements of the school’s development plan.
  • Challenge educational under-achievement and inspire children to reach their full educational potential across the range of additional needs within the school.
  • Help develop the school to become a sustainable, outstanding specialist provision, developing partnerships with pupils, parents, the local communities and other schools.
  • Manage organisational and educational change necessary to achieve and sustain success.
  • Work with the Executive Principal and leadership colleagues to oversee the development of the physical environment and facilities of the school to provide a positive, welcoming and safe environment for learning.
  • Actively participate as a member of the leadership team to develop PCT Education as a whole, including:
  • Taking responsibility for key elements of the school development plan.
  • Provide support in the development of new services.
  • Provide termly reports to the Executive Principal.
  • Reviewing staff, including administration and catering staff for that school.
  • Implement the school development plan and support the self-evaluation process.
  • Implement a clear and progressive staffing strategy in-line with PCT Education Services policy and procedures.
  • Lead the culture of shared accountability in all staff for pupil performance and attainment.
  • Ensure all statutory requirements and Independent School Standards are met.
  • Advocate and develop innovative ways of teaching and learning to meet the need of pupils of all abilities and SEMH needs through effective delivery and delivering PCT.
  • Provide a sound foundation for pupils’ learning and monitor progress carefully.
  • Ensure a wide range of activities for pupils to give them confidence in their ability to take on new challenges, raise aspirations and increase self-belief.
  • Encourage and promote the creative use of computing to support teaching and learning.
  • Recognise and celebrate the distinctive nature of the school by encouraging a wide range of extra-curricular trips and activities to enhance and consolidate learning and whole child development.
  • Provide a safe and healthy environment in which pupils’ wellbeing and welfare can be nurtured.
  • Foster a lively and welcoming ambience in which high standards of behaviour encourage learning and social development.

Leading and Managing Staff:

  • Take operational responsibility for the leadership, internal organisation, management and daily running of the school.
  • Directly line manage teachers and support staff, setting targets in line with the school's strategic direction and development plan, including:
    • Probation/induction training
    • Appraisal and performance management
    • Attendance
    • Staff wellbeing
  • Liaise with Executive leadership to oversee recruitment and selection of teaching and support staff to meet the short and longer-term needs of the school and the pupils.
  • Maximise the contribution of all staff to maintain and continuously improve the quality of education provided through effective implementation of PCT Education policies, procedures and working practices.
  • Support the development, appraisal, work performance and continuous professional development (CPD) of all staff effectively.
  • Promote, encourage and support initiative and team working, both within the school and more widely with other schools across PCT Education Services.
  • Exercise the school’s duty of care regarding staff welfare.

Criteria - Essential:

  • QTS/QTLS
  • Experience in the delivery and administration of vocational courses (NOCN/C&G or similar).
  • Proven leadership and expertise to a senior level in a Special Educational Needs provision.
  • Curriculum development

  • Relevant experience in management
  • Successful and varied teaching experience
  • Making decisions and taking responsibility for outcomes.
  • Delegating and sharing leadership.
  • Encouraging, supporting and motivating people, including pupils, staff and parents.
  • Challenging, influencing and motivating others to attain high standards
  • Record of successfully implementing initiatives to raise standards
  • Experience in collecting and analysing school performance data.
  • Current knowledge of teaching, technologies, their use, implementation and impact.
  • Record of successfully demonstrating differentiation and developing and delivering creative learning environments.

PCT Education Services is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils at all times. Under the guidance of the Executive Principal, the post holder will be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of all young people which he/she comes in to contact with, in accordance with PCT Education Services Safeguarding policy. The post holder is required to obtain a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS). The post holder is required to disclose to the school details of any police warning, caution, bind-over or conviction before and during relevant employment.
