PCSI is looking for a Guard Shift Supervisor to join our team at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. The Guard Shift Supervisor leads a team of Guards, managing schedules and ensuring post coverage at all times. This role directs and monitors the work of about 15 employees and provides training to promote high standards of security and customer service. The Supervisor also uses electronic systems to complete required documentation, submit activity logs, and maintain employee time and attendance records.

We’re looking for someone with experience leading and scheduling a team. Security-related experience is a plus! This position works and drives between 3 outbuildings in support of Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. A driver’s license and ability to drive company vehicles is required. Typical hours are Monday-Friday, 7:00 am-3:30 pm, with occasional weekends and holidays.

What You’ll Do as Guard Shift Supervisor:
  • Supervise a team of Guards and monitor employee performance.
  • Prepare, maintain, and arrange Guard personnel schedules to meet the daily or changing workloads or requests.
  • Modify staffing schedules to address call-outs and provide post coverage as needed.
  • Direct and monitor work assignments for identification checking duties and ensure compliance with contract specifications.
  • Provide guidance to Guards on customer service and security procedures; motivate staff to build professionalism and develop skills.
  • Train new and existing employees on identification validation processes and customer service expectations for communicating with military personnel and the public.
  • Maintain time and attendance and resolve routine disciplinary problems.
  • Adhere to and enforce company rules, technical procedures, and safety policies related to position as may be communicated verbally or in writing.
  • Use electronic devices such as tablets, mobile phones, and computers to update documentation and maintain activity logs for management and government customer.
  • Complete and submit employee case notes for Workforce Development.

What You’ll Need:
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 1–3 years of leadership experience required, including team lead or acting supervisor experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between buildings required.
  • Experience supervising and training security staff preferred.
  • 1–2 years of public sector (school, hospital, etc.) related experience preferred.
  • Experience in an environment that includes workers with disabilities preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of PC functions and software, including Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Working understanding of site security operations and safety practices as learned and applied on the job.
  • Ability to train and provide ongoing guidance to employees.
  • Ability to follow directions, understand work rules and procedures, and accept constructive criticism.
  • Ability to effectively listen and clearly communicate in person, in writing, and on the telephone.
  • Ability to interact harmoniously with co-workers, management, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to direct the work of others.
  • Ability and willingness to exert disciplinary action as needed as well as delegate authority.
  • Ability to adhere to contract requirements and company policies, safety and health rules and regulations.
  • Ability to adhere to all company mission, core values, policies and ethical practices.
Other Requirements:
  • Ability to pass criminal, drug, and driving screening.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or perform light physical duties as needed for the role.
  • Ability to be exposed to various dirt, debris, and odors.
  • Subject to hazards associated with working in a health care environment that may cause personal harm; diseases, cuts, bruises, burns, common colds, influenza, dust, odors and elevated noise levels.
  • Ability to work any time or day of the week, including weekends and holidays.
  • Possess valid driver’s license and maintain good driving record.
  • If required, ability to obtain and maintain security clearance and base access to assigned site(s).
