The Digital News Producer is responsible for pitching and producing video content that will resonate with digital audiences. They will pitch video stories, gather editorial information, conduct pre-production interviews, write scripts, and edit video in-house.
The team produces video news content for its own digital platforms and selected social media platforms. Looking for news experience that includes research, interviews, scripts, and editing (must be skilled in using Adobe Premiere Pro).
Must have worked in a similar producer role in a news media outlet (ideally Global, National but could also be Local). Must have a Journalism degree (would consider something like politics if they have strong work experience in a news production environment). Ideally 3 years experience but definitely 1 year as a producer within a news media environment.
The ideal candidate is a video-first storyteller who loves to collaborate in a fast-paced news environment. They are a reporter who values accuracy and fairness; a team player willing to jump in and help at a moment's notice. They are flexible and can move between hard news and lighter storytelling seamlessly. Sound editorial judgement, creativity, and a passion for engaging digital audiences is a must. This is a freelance position.
Your Role Accountabilities:
- Writing scripts and editing video for all digital platforms
- Monitoring breaking news and search/social trends
- Gathering editorial information through research and interviews
- Brainstorming and regularly pitching story ideas
- Experimenting with video formats to reach new audiences
- Publishing to its own global news digital platforms and external social networks
- Assigning video stories and reviewing scripts/edits
- Collaborating with colleagues in CNN bureaus around the world
Qualifications & Experience:
- 3+ years of working at a major media outlet, or equivalent experience
- Experience fact-checking stories and conducting interviews
- Passion for breaking news and current events
- Skilled with post-production software Adobe Premiere
- Portfolio of producing or overseeing creative video storytelling in 16:9 and vertical formats
- Track record of collaborating in a deadline-driven environment
- Strong writing, communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to work holidays, weekends, overnights and extended hours as the news cycle and deadlines require
