R&D Scientist wanted to help maintain our existing portfolio of resin materials, along with the opportunity to assist on the development of new porous mould materials and casting slip recipes. Established in 1991, based in Kings Lynn Norfolk, PCL Ceramics is a leader in the field of high-pressure casting technology for the global ceramic industry. We are currently expanding our R&D team in a drive for New Product Development to meet our customer needs whilst supporting continued business growth.
Whilst relevant experience would be an asset, this role is equally viewed as an opportunity for a recent graduate looking to make their mark in industry.
The Company: PCL Ceramics manufactures and develops resin moulds, materials, handling equipment and high-pressure casting technology for the general and technical ceramics industry worldwide. From conception to completion, the commitment to innovation is fully supported by their experienced staff and partners who provide a wide range of customer support and advice on all aspects of high-pressure casting, associated materials and equipment.
The role will also support collaborative development activities, working across organisational boundaries to develop and optimise materials and processes. The job holder will act as a technical interface between PCL Ceramics Ltd, our partners and our customers, ensuring alignment of project objectives, testing methodologies, and performance requirements.
The R&D scientist position is a full-time, permanent role encompassing laboratory experimentation, small scale development work, full-scale manufacturing trials, and product performance testing. The job holder will report to the Head of Technical – Materials and Moulds and be part of the New Product Development Department. They will also assist and collaborate with staff in other functions, providing technical support to all aspects of the business.
Responsibilities of a successful candidate:
- Develop and test new mould material recipes.
- Develop and test new and existing slip recipes.
- Directly test material using a range of analytical equipment.
- Record and report results, clearly and concisely.
- Support joint development projects with KLT Filtration, including material formulation, testing, and performance evaluation.
- Work closely with colleagues from Commercial, Quality and Operations functions as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Candidate requirements:
- Educated to degree level in chemistry, polymer science, material science or other related science discipline.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
- Self-motivated, inquisitive and pro-active.
- Hands-on approach.
- Concern for safety and attention to detail.
- Logical, methodical approach to problem solving.
Training will be provided to enable work to be carried out safely and to a high standard. Work must be undertaken in accordance with the company’s Environmental, Health and Safety Standards, and in compliance with our ISO9001:2015 quality certification.
