PBSC is seeking an experienced Project Engineer with at least 5 years of experience to oversee the technical coordination of projects from order placement through installation, commissioning, and final customer handover.
Role Purpose
The Project Engineer will be responsible for ensuring projects are successfully delivered in accordance with customer requirements, agreed specifications, programme, budget and PBSC quality standards.
Working closely with Design, Manufacturing, Electrical/Controls, Procurement, Commissioning, Sales and third-party suppliers, the Project Engineer will act as a key technical and project interface between PBSC and its customers.
Following product familiarization, the successful candidate will be expected to manage projects with a high degree of autonomy and make appropriate technical and project decisions independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage projects from receipt of customer order through design, manufacture, testing, installation, commissioning and final handover.
- Review customer specifications, purchase orders, technical requirements and contractual deliverables.
- Establish project requirements, key milestones and deliverables at the start of each project.
- Coordinate engineering activities between mechanical design, electrical/controls, and manufacturing
- Provide technical support to customers, suppliers, distributors and internal departments.
- Identify technical, programme and commercial risks and ensure appropriate actions are implemented.
- Monitor project programmes and proactively manage potential delays.
- Manage technical queries, design changes and customer variations throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure changes affecting cost or programme are identified, documented and communicated appropriately.
- Prepare and maintain project documentation including schedules, technical submissions, progress reports, meeting minutes and handover documentation.
- Participate in design reviews, project reviews, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), and customer inspections.
- Attend and, where appropriate, chair customer and supplier project meetings.
- Coordinate third-party suppliers and subcontractors associated with project delivery.
- Support manufacturing and assembly teams with project-specific technical requirements.
- Coordinate installation and commissioning requirements with PBSC engineers and customers.
- Assist with departmental resource planning, including allocation of engineers for installation, commissioning and servicing activities.
- Support PBSC's international distributors and agents with technically complex projects.
- Travel to customer and supplier sites within the UK when required.
- Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with PBSC's ISO 9001 Quality Management System and applicable customer/GMP requirements.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a Project Engineer, Project Manager, Technical Project Engineer or similar role.
- Experience within an engineering design and build, process equipment or specialist equipment manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrable experience managing technically complex projects from order through to customer handover.
- Experience working directly with customers on technical and project matters.
- Experience reviewing engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Experience managing project programmes, priorities and multiple concurrent projects.
- Experience of FAT, installation, commissioning and/or equipment qualification activities.
- Ideally, experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, cleanroom, containment, laboratory, healthcare or another regulated industry.
- Experience working within GMP environments would be highly advantageous.
Technical Skills
The successful candidate should be comfortable with:
- Mechanical and electrical engineering drawings.
- General manufacturing and fabrication processes.
- Electrical/control systems and basic PLC-controlled equipment.
- Technical specifications and customer requirements.
- Equipment installation and commissioning.
- Engineering change control.
- Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Outlook.
Full PBSC product and application training will be provided.
Qualifications
- Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Process or another relevant engineering discipline.
- Candidates without a degree will also be considered where they can demonstrate significant relevant engineering and project experience.
- A recognized project management qualification such as APM, PRINCE2 or equivalent would be advantageous but is not essential.
