We’re recruiting on behalf of a growing accountancy practice that is preparing for the next phase of Making Tax Digital (MTD) and is looking to add an advanced junior accountant or experienced bookkeeper to the team. This is a practical, hands-on role suited to someone who already has experience in practice and is comfortable with bookkeeping and preparing basic profit & loss accounts.

The Role

  • You’ll be supporting the practice with quarterly bookkeeping and mini P&L reporting for MTD submissions to HMRC.
  • The client base is around 150 clients on a quarterly cycle, and depending on workflow you may also assist across VAT, bookkeeping, or the accounts team.
  • As MTD processes continue to evolve, the role offers good exposure and the opportunity to grow with the practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing quarterly bookkeeping and mini P&L statements for MTD submissions.
  • Maintaining accurate records for a portfolio of clients.
  • Supporting VAT returns and underlying bookkeeping.
  • Assisting with year-end accounts preparation where required.
  • Working with cloud accounting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, Sage).
  • Meeting regular deadlines and ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements.

Experience & Skills

  • Previous experience within an accountancy practice (junior accountant or bookkeeper level).
  • Comfortable preparing basic profit & loss accounts.
  • Solid understanding of bookkeeping and double-entry principles.
  • Some VAT experience preferred.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to manage recurring deadlines.

Qualifications

  • AAT qualified, part-qualified, or studying (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Study support provided for further qualifications (AAT / ACCA).
  • Long-term development opportunity within a growing practice.
  • Exposure to MTD implementation and modern accounting system.
  • Must have the right to work in the UK.
