As the Senior Director of AI and Data Governance, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing a comprehensive strategy to ensure the responsible, ethical, and effective use of AI and data across the organization. Reporting to the Chief Data and AI Officer, you will establish policies, frameworks, and processes to safeguard data integrity, regulatory compliance, and security while enabling innovation and value creation. This role demands a deep understanding of global AI and data regulations, including the EU AI Act, GDPR, and other international frameworks, as well as the ability to foster a data-driven culture throughout the organisation.

How we work:
We follow a hybrid working model, spending an average of three days per week at our office location. The office is located in Gresham Street next to St Paul\’s cathedral with easy access and transport links via St Paul\’s, Bank, Cannon Street, City Thameslink, Liverpool Street, Farringdon, Mansion House.
The impact you will have:
Strategy & Framework Development
- Define and lead the company-wide AI and data governance vision, ensuring alignment with the organization\’s strategic objectives, regulatory requirements, and ethical principles.
- Develop and implement robust frameworks, policies, and standards for data governance, privacy, AI ethics, and compliance, incorporating requirements from the EU AI Act, GDPR, and equivalent global regulations (e.g., CCPA, UK AI governance principles, and ISO standards).
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Mitigation
- Ensure adherence to the EU AI Act and other regional AI-specific regulations by implementing mechanisms to classify AI systems, assess risks, and ensure accountability.
- Stay abreast of global regulatory developments, including initiatives in the UK, US, and other key markets, and proactively adapt governance practices to remain compliant.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with data usage, AI deployment, and compliance, ensuring alignment with industry standards and ethical guidelines.
Data Quality & Stewardship
- Drive initiatives to enhance data quality, accessibility, and usability, providing a solid foundation for analytics, AI, and decision-making processes.
- Oversee the implementation of tools and technologies for effective data cataloging, lineage tracking, and quality assurance.
Monitoring, Reporting & Innovation
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and reporting mechanisms to evaluate the effectiveness of data governance and AI compliance efforts, delivering updates to executive leadership and the board.
- Monitor emerging trends in AI, data governance, and regulatory landscapes, incorporating best practices and innovative approaches into the organization\’s policies and operations.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Collaborate with legal, compliance, risk management, information security, data engineering, and business teams to integrate governance practices across all business functions.
- Lead the creation and deployment of AI governance processes that balance innovation with regulatory requirements, ensuring fairness, transparency, and explainability in AI systems.
Team Leadership & Culture Building
- Build, mentor, and lead a team of data governance and AI ethics professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and excellence.
- Champion data governance and AI ethics throughout the organization via training, workshops, and awareness campaigns for teams at all levels.
What we\’re looking for:
Experience
- At least 10 years of experience in data governance, compliance, AI ethics, or related fields, with significant leadership experience in a fintech or regulated industry.
- Proven track record of designing and implementing scalable data governance frameworks in compliance with GDPR, the EU AI Act, and other global regulations.
- Experience managing complex regulatory compliance initiatives across multiple jurisdictions.
Technical Expertise
- Strong understanding of AI/ML technologies, data privacy, security principles, and governance best practices.
- Familiarity with international regulations and standards, including GDPR, EU AI Act, CCPA, ISO/IEC AI standards, and UK-specific AI governance principles.
Education
- Master\’s degree or higher in data science, computer science, information systems, law, or a related field.
- Certifications such as CDMP, CIPP/E, CIPM, or equivalent are highly desirable.
