About the Role

As Payroll Manager, you\’ll oversee the full payroll function for a diverse and growing workforce—including PAYE employees, umbrella workers, limited company contractors, and CIS workers. You’ll ensure timely and compliant payroll processing while driving operational improvements and leading a high-performing payroll team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the end-to-end payroll process across daily, weekly, and monthly cycles
  • Handle payroll for multiple worker types : umbrella, PAYE, Ltd company contractors, and CIS
  • Ensure HMRC, employment law, and pension compliance across all payroll operations
  • Act as the go-to expert for complex payroll queries, audits, and reconciliations
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and Compliance teams to align employee data and policy
  • Drive automation and process improvements for increased accuracy and scalability
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing payroll team
  • Produce reporting and payroll analytics to support strategic decisions

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience in payroll management , preferably in high-volume, multi-structure environments
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation , including PAYE, umbrella, Ltd company & CIS
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and modern cloud-based payroll platforms
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to drive operational transformation
  • Exceptional numerical accuracy , attention to detail, and communication skills
  • Leadership experience with a collaborative and accountable management style
  • Industry experience in healthcare or recruitment payroll (preferred but not essential)
