As part of our ongoing expansion, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Accountant to join our finance function in Croydon. Role Summary: The Accountant will play a critical role in ensuring accurate financial management, reporting, and compliance. The successful candidate will bring robust experience from an accountancy practice environment, with particular strengths in taxation, statutory accounts, and CIS accounting. Key Responsibilities:
- Bookkeeping & Accounting: Maintain accurate financial records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries. Oversee the invoice process, payment scheduling, and bank reconciliations. Manage expense controls and support monthly payroll processing, including payroll disbursement and expense claims. Prepare month-end financial closes for group companies. Support small business accounting and Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) submissions. Liaise with external accountants where necessary.
- Financial & Management Reporting: Produce management accounts, including financial performance analysis, variance explanations, and budget comparisons for senior management. Conduct detailed monthly balance sheet and cash flow analysis, including working capital assessments. Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations with supporting documentation.
- Statutory Accounts & Taxation: Prepare and review year-end financial statements in compliance with UK GAAP or applicable standards. Drive timely and accurate statutory reporting across all group companies. Prepare and review corporate tax returns, VAT returns, and CIS filings. Ensure all statutory deadlines and HMRC compliance requirements are met.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Required Experience: A minimum of 4 years’ experience within an accountancy practice handling diverse client portfolios. Strong knowledge of CIS (Construction Industry Scheme) accounting is essential. Demonstrated experience in preparing financial statements, management accounts, VAT, and corporate tax returns.
- Professional Qualifications: ACCA qualified (or equivalent).
