Software Engineer - Parcels Engineering - Fixed Term Contract - 1 year
The Software Engineer role within the Parcels Engineering team offers the right individual an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the successful Collect Plus Parcels Carrier Management System, this system provides Parcel Management throughout over 10000 stores nationwide processing in excess of 2 Million Parcels per week.
The team support a variety of Backend and instore hardware and software solutions to run the store network including a new partnership with Royal Mail to deliver a self service Point of Sale Kiosk for handling of Parcels.
Joining a dynamic team responsible for supporting existing solutions and delivering new capabilities, you will take ownership of technical deliverables from design through to implementation and support.
Working collaboratively with Senior Engineers, you will apply engineering judgement to develop robust, maintainable solutions across the Collect Plus systems.
As your knowledge of the platform and business domain grows, you will work with increasing autonomy, lead appropriate deliverables independently, support less experienced colleagues, and deputise for senior team members when required, confidently representing the team with stakeholders.
Responsibilities will include
- Developing Parcel Management systems using the latest technologies.
- Leading projects to integrate with new Parcel Carriers.
- Migrating existing applications from on-premises system to Azure cloud.
- Deliver to strict Client/Industry led deadlines.
- Supporting and maintaining applications managed by the team.
- Undertaking various tasks, including analysis, estimating, design, coding, and testing.
- Contributing to the improvement of working practices.
- Mentoring junior members of the team.
- Possibility of out of hours on-call Support once experienced.

Qualifications & Experience
- A minimum of 2-3 years experience as a software engineer
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies (Scrum or Kanban)
- Knowledge of core concepts in a programming language like C# or Java
- Exposure to building or integrating AI-powered features, services, or workflow automations.
- Familiarity with concepts such as prompt design and agentic coding-driven development
- Good Knowledge of Object-Relational Mapping (ORM) technology (e. g. Entity Framework)
- Strong Understanding of SQL and relational databases (e. g. SQL Server)
- Understanding of fundamental programming principles (e. g. SOLID, clean code)
- Experience with version control systems (e. g. Git)
- Bachelor’s Degree / Apprentice Level 3/4 in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or a related field
- Knowledge of any additional programming languages or frameworks (e. g. C++, Python, Go, Rust)
- Experience of application design in a micro-service architecture (considering security and infrastructure)
- An understanding of Dev Sec Ops
- Postman/Bruno/SOAP, Selenium, Cypress, Splunk
- Experience in Android/IOS development frameworks
