The Cloud Engineer is responsible for the design and development of cloud architectures, solutions, and migration strategies to support Paymentology's business objectives. This role involves assessing existing IT infrastructure, identifying opportunities for cloud adoption, and recommending migration strategies based on cost, performance, and security considerations. The Cloud Architect defines cloud architecture principles, standards, and best practices, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. This role designs scalable, resilient, and highly available cloud infrastructure solutions using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools and automation techniques. Additionally, the role includes implementing cloud security measures, optimising resource utilisation and performance, and supporting the implementation of cloud-based solutions across AWS, Azure, and OCI platforms.

  • Cloud Design and Development: Lead the design and development of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) architectures. Create scalable, resilient cloud solutions using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform. Design and migrate applications across GCP and AWS, optionally Azure, and OCI platforms. Collaborate with stakeholders to define cloud strategies and optimise existing infrastructure.
  • GCP and Multi-Cloud Expertise: Architect and implement cloud-native solutions in Google Cloud (GCP), leveraging services like EKS, GKE (Google Kubernetes). Design and optimise GCP. Implement Identity and Access Management (IAM) and Security Policies. Work with Google Anthos, Kubernetes, and container-based architectures. Optimise GCP cost and performance, ensuring efficiency across environments. Provide expertise in AWS, Azure, and OCI when needed.
  • Kafka and Kubernetes Platform Management: Design, deploy, and maintain scalable Kafka and Kubernetes clusters to support development and production environments. Implement best practices for Kafka and Kubernetes operations, ensuring high availability, performance, and security. Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise Kafka and Kubernetes infrastructure to meet development team needs.
  • Implementation: Implement cloud infrastructure components, including compute, storage, networking, and security services. Ensure seamless integration with existing systems across multi-cloud platforms.
  • Migration and Deployment: Assess and migrate on-premises applications to the Google Cloud. Develop and execute cloud migration and deployment strategies, ensuring security and performance. Work with Terraform, Deployment Manager, and CloudFormation for IaC-based deployments.
  • Security and Compliance: Implement cloud security measures and ensure compliance with ISO 27001, PCI DSS, GDPR, and other industry standards. Define cloud architecture standards and best practices for a secure cloud environment.
  • Performance Optimisation: Monitor and optimise cloud resources for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency. Implement DevOps practices for streamlined deployment and operations.
  • Troubleshooting and Support: Provide technical support for cloud infrastructure and services. Troubleshoot and resolve performance, availability, and security issues. Support production environments and participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation when required.

Experience: 7+ years of experience in designing, implementing, and managing cloud-based solutions across multiple cloud platforms.

Primary Expertise: Deep hands-on experience in Google Cloud (GCP). Basic knowledge / willing to learn AWS. Proven experience in designing and implementing cloud architectures and solutions. Experience with Apache Kafka, including setup, configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting. Proficiency in Kubernetes (GKE), including experience with container orchestration, Helm charts, and Kubernetes operators. Hands-on experience with DevOps tools (e.g., GitLab, Jenkins, ArgoCD) and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) (e.g., Terraform, Ansible). Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, ArgoCD) and source control management (Git). Strong scripting skills (e.g., Bash, Shell, PowerShell, Python). Experience in automating infrastructure deployment using IaC tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, and ARM templates. Experience with Agile methodologies and cloud governance models.

Bonus points for those possessing certifications such as: GCP Certified Professional Cloud Architect (Advantage), AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, OCI Cloud Architect Associate (Optional), Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect (Optional), AWS Solutions Architect – Professional (Optional), Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert (Optional), Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) (Preferred for Kubernetes expertise).
