We are seeking an experienced and motivated Maintenance Fitter to join a busy Maintenance team within a well-established industrial manufacturing environment. The Maintenance Fitter will play a key role in ensuring plant, machinery and equipment operate safely, efficiently and reliably. Working as part of a wider maintenance and production team, the successful candidate will carry out planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding, repairs and equipment improvements, with a strong focus on minimising downtime and maximising production.

This is a hands-on role suited to a qualified Maintenance Fitter or an experienced mechanical maintenance professional with a strong background in industrial or manufacturing environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance on mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic plant and equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and breakdowns quickly and effectively to minimise production downtime.
  • Repair and rebuild hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
  • Maintain, repair and rebuild pumps, gearboxes and other mechanical systems.
  • Maintain and replace bearings, belts, chains and associated components.
  • Carry out welding, cutting and grinding as required.
  • Complete chipper knife changes and other machinery maintenance where required.
  • Develop and support preventative maintenance programmes for mechanical and hydraulic equipment.
  • Identify technical issues and opportunities for improvement that may affect production, equipment reliability or product quality.
  • Work closely with production personnel to ensure maintenance activities are completed safely and with minimal disruption.
  • Follow all Permit to Work procedures, Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work.
  • Ensure appropriate PPE is worn and all Health & Safety policies and procedures are followed.
  • Set a positive example in relation to safety, compliance and personal responsibility.
  • Communicate effectively with management, supervisors, production personnel, contractors and other members of the maintenance team.
  • Participate in maintenance and production meetings, contributing to problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping within maintenance and production areas.
  • Share technical knowledge and experience with colleagues while learning from other members of the team.
  • Attend relevant training to maintain and develop technical skills.
  • Support colleagues in achieving team and operational goals.
  • Work flexibly, including providing shift cover where required.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties required by management.

Knowledge & Experience

The successful candidate should have:

  • A recognised qualification as a time-served Maintenance Fitter, or relevant mechanical maintenance experience gained within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience in machinery installation, maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair.
  • Practical knowledge of hydraulic systems.
  • Practical knowledge of pneumatic systems.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and industrial machinery.
  • Experience working with bearings, belts, chains, pumps and gearboxes.
  • Welding, grinding and cutting experience.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving ability, with the capacity to identify technical issues that could affect production or quality.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • A strong understanding of safe working practices within an industrial environment.
