We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Trainee Quantity Surveyor to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start or develop a career in construction, gaining hands‑on experience across a diverse range of projects. The successful candidate will support our Quantity Surveying team with cost management, procurement, valuations and contract administration, while working towards becoming a qualified Quantity Surveyor.
Based in Shropshire, we have successfully completed a diverse range of construction projects, including residential, commercial, and industrial developments in Shropshire, Powys, Wrexham, Staffordshire and beyond, leaving a remarkable footprint in these regions. The Trainee Quantity Surveyor will support the commercial team in the management of construction project costs from inception through to completion. Working under the guidance of experienced Quantity Surveyors, the Trainee Quantity Surveyor will develop the skills and knowledge required to assist with cost control, procurement, subcontractor management, valuations, and financial reporting. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience whilst developing a professional career in Quantity Surveying.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of cost estimates, bills of quantities, and tender documentation
- Support the review and analysis of project costs and expenditure
- Assist with obtaining and evaluating quotations from subcontractors and suppliers
- Help prepare subcontract orders and maintain subcontractor records
- Support the measurement and valuation of completed works
- Assist with the preparation and submission of client valuations and applications for payment
- Monitor project costs and assist in maintaining accurate financial records
- Support the management of variations and change control procedures
- Assist with the preparation of cost reports and commercial updates for project teams and company directors
- Attend site visits and meetings to gain an understanding of project progress and commercial requirements
- Help ensure compliance with contractual obligations, company procedures, and industry regulations
- Work collaboratively with Site Managers, Contracts Managers, Subcontractors, Suppliers, and Clients
- Maintain accurate project documentation and filing systems
- Undertake training and development activities to progress towards becoming a qualified Quantity Surveyor
Skills and Competencies
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Good attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to learn and apply commercial and contractual principles
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Good organisational and time management skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
- Willingness to learn relevant industry software such as Bluebeam
- Ability to work as part of a team and build positive working relationships
- Problem‑solving skills and a proactive approach to learning
- Understanding of the importance of health and safety within construction environments
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- A‑Levels or equivalent that demonstrate numerical, analytical, and problem solving skills. Usually between 96 – 144 UCAS points (equivalent to approximately CCC to AAB at A‑Level)
- GCSE’s or equivalent in English and Mathematics (typically Grade 4/C or above)
- Full UK Driving Licence

- Previous work experience within the construction industry
