This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Junior Accountant to join a growing finance team and gain hands-on experience across the full finance function. The role is ideal for someone who is AAT qualified, part-qualified, or a finance graduate and looking to complete ACCA or CIMA. You will be involved in day-to-day finance operations while developing strong technical foundations and commercial understanding, with guidance and mentoring from the Head of Finance.
Although the Head of Finance works remotely, the role is fully office based (Newcastle-under-Lyme), working closely with colleagues on site and gaining exposure to real-time business operations.
What You Will Be Doing
- Day-to-Day Finance Operations
- Supporting accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
- Maintaining accurate supplier and customer records and resolving routine queries
- Assisting with payment runs and day-to-day cash processing
- Supporting bank reconciliations and cash allocation
- Month-End and Reporting Exposure
- Assisting with month-end close activities, including journals, accruals and prepayments
- Supporting preparation of management accounts and reporting schedules
- Maintaining balance sheet reconciliations with support from the Head of Finance
- Helping ensure financial records are accurate and audit-ready
- Cost Control, Budgets and Forecasting
- Supporting cost accounting activities and variance analysis
- Assisting with budget and forecast preparation and updates
- Providing financial data and analysis to support operational decision-making
- Systems and Process Learning
- Working with Sage accounting software for daily processing and reporting
- Supporting ongoing improvements to finance processes and controls
- Developing a strong understanding of end-to-end finance operations
What We Are Looking For
- Essential
- AAT qualified, part-qualified (ACCA or CIMA), or finance-related degree
- Actively studying or planning to complete ACCA or CIMA
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn
- Good organisational skills and a positive, proactive attitude
- Desirable
- Experience using Sage accounting software
- 12 years experience in a junior finance or accounting role
- Tech savvy and comfortable working with Excel, with a willingness to learn new tools and improve processes
Development and Progression
This role offers broad exposure across core finance activities and is designed to support long-term development within finance. Full study support is provided towards ACCA or CIMA, alongside structured on-the-job learning and regular support from the Head of Finance.
