Role Overview
With the growing emphasis on product safety and quality, we are looking for a Technical Assistant to support the site in operating at the highest possible standards in Food Safety and producing excellent quality products at all times. The role reports to the Technical Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the implementation and monitoring of all Food Safety, Quality and Hygiene Procedures.
- Support with preparing the site for external audits and accreditation / EHO visits.
- Food Safety Training delivery: Induction / In-House Food Safety / Refreshers / Training record keeping.
- Training Platform administration – send online Training / informing Managers on team members due.
- HACCP – check HACCP related paperwork, train staff on CCPs / member of site HACCP team.
- Audit Production Departments & QMS paperwork (GMP, CCP, Hygiene & Fabrication Audits etc.).
- Product & Process audits including forward and backward traceability / Glass & Hard Plastic audits.
- Reporting non-conforming products/process to relevant Dept Manager, ensuring appropriate action.
- Work closely with all Department Managers and Teams to maintain high standards of operation.
- Assist with increasing knowledge of teams in the completion of records to required standards.
- Maintenance and updating of QMS documentation & electronic/paper record systems.
- Calibration and use of monitoring devices (e.g., temperature probes, scales, scheduled checks).
- Knife Integrity Checks / Issuing new equipment and monitoring department controls / records.
- Micro sampling of products and analysis/investigation, carrying out environmental swabbing.
- Support complaints investigations, maintain records/complaints log, data trending.
- Raw material delivery assessment / Supplier complaints / work closely with Purchasing dept.
- Support monitoring of Pest Control and reporting/liaising on any hygiene/proofing issues.
- Support wider food safety projects / Allergen awareness and controls.
- Escalate reporting where appropriate in accordance with site Food Safety and Quality procedures.
- Follow QA Hold procedure – provision of QA hold notices / QA Hold Log and chase actions.
- Support monthly provision of data for KPI’s and progress with Internal Audit Schedules.
- Support with writing / update of Specifications/Product Portals as required.
Key Requirements
- Minimum 2-years Food manufacturing experience in a similar technical team role.
- Experience of sites with accreditation such as BRC, Retailer Audits, SALSA.
- Internal Auditing Training & Experience e.g. BRC/SALSA Internal Audits.
- Experience and knowledge of writing specifications / labeling is required.
- Level 3+ Food Hygiene qualification desirable.
- HACCP Level 3+ knowledge and experience desirable.
- Basic Microbiology knowledge, training would be an advantage.
- Data collection and report writing.
- Experience/Confidence in delivering training to staff, building strong knowledge of Site processes.
- IT literate – use of Word, Excel, Database systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- High levels of accuracy in work with attention to detail and a methodical approach.
- Site operates 24/7 so very occasionally weekend/night work may be required as necessary.
Package
- Location: London based – Lassell St, Greenwich, SE10 9PJ
- Position: Full-time, Permanent. Site-based role with usual pattern of 5 days a week Mon-Fri, with occasional weekend/night work as necessary.
- Salary: £28,000 to £30,000 per annum
