Our client is a family-run business operating across various retail sectors. From its central distribution centre and Head Office in Leicester, it supplies nationwide through its wholesale cash and carry businesses. As one of the largest companies in its sector in the UK, it is a fast-paced and rapidly growing organisation with a strong reputation within the industry.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic AAT-qualified Accountant to join its small, friendly finance team based on the outskirts of Leicester. This is a varied and hands-on role, ideal for someone who enjoys working in a fast-moving environment and can take initiative while working collaboratively within a team. You will support the finance department across a broad range of accounting tasks and play an important role in ensuring the smooth financial operation of the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Producing month-end reports and preparing the first draft of management accounts
  • Managing accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Overseeing financial aspects of the import process
  • Ensuring suppliers are paid accurately and on time
  • Ensuring VAT and duty are correctly accounted for
  • Managing cash receipts and general ledger activity
  • Monitoring cashflow, budgeting and forecasting
  • Performing revenue and expenditure variance analysis
  • Reconciling account statements
  • Monitoring fixed asset activity and debt activity
  • Supporting ad-hoc finance tasks when required
About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Completed AAT qualification
  • A minimum of five years’ experience working within a finance department in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong IT and computer skills
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • The ability to manage workloads and meet deadlines
Additional Responsibilities
  • Ensure appropriate accounting methods, policies and principles are followed
  • Monitor and analyse accounting data and produce financial reports
  • Improve finance systems and procedures where possible
  • Complete credit checks for new customers
  • Maintain fiscal records and files
  • Manage and support a small team
  • Liaise with the operations department when required
  • Demonstrate an understanding of import and export processes, particularly with the Far East and the EU

Working Hours

Monday – Thursday: 9:00am – 5:30pm
Friday: 9:00am – 5:00pm
This role is office-based in North Leicester.

Salary: £30,000 – £35,000 per year (dependent on experience)
