Do you have the administrative skills and aptitude to support a complex programme of funding, networking and learning activities? The Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art (PMC) is looking for an Administrative Assistant (Grants, Networks & Learning) to help support the delivery of its programmes.

Who We Are

As a research centre and educational charity, PMC aims to generate original, inclusive and creative thinking and scholarship on British art, understood in its most diverse and expansive contexts. We host and support a thriving programme of research events. We publish innovative books and a wide range of digital outputs, including our prize-winning journal British Art Studies. We pursue individual and collaborative research projects. With our grants and fellowships programme, we sustain the most exciting and original work in British art and visual culture. We make our specialist archives and library accessible to a growing public, at Bedford Square and beyond. We deliver teaching and learning programmes and run networks that connect researchers and professionals.

About the Role

PMC is looking for an Administrative Assistant to support the Grants, Networks & Learning team.

The programmes of activity and funding run by the PMC’s Grants, Networks & Learning team are aimed at engaging, sustaining and developing individuals involved with British art history and culture at different stages of their lives. Our grants and fellowships support new research in British art and architectural history and of British visual culture understood more broadly. Every year we award £1 million across a variety of funding opportunities to individuals and organisations, distributed through two rounds of grant making in the spring and autumn. PMC’s Networks are aimed at creating opportunities for those engaged in the field of British art to connect with one another, whether as researchers, curators or arts professionals, thus helping to develop their knowledge and skills, and share their learning. Supported Networks currently include the Doctoral Researchers Network (DRN), Early Career Researchers Network (ECRN) and the British Art Network (BAN), a subject-specialist network supported by PMC in partnership with Tate. The Learning programme is designed to help every young person (14yrs – 24yrs) who wants to engage with, and learn more about, British art, and endeavours to spark that interest amongst young people who do not yet know how British art may speak to their individual lives and experiences.

Salary will be in the range of £26,000–£29,000 per annum depending on experience.

This post is a fixed-term contract for a minimum period of twelve months, full-time and the hours of work are thirty-five per week.

Applicants will be expected to work on site at the Paul Mellon Centre, Bedford Square, London WC1 (or remotely as circumstances demand). We are happy to talk about flexible working arrangements offered by PMC.

Key responsibilities include: Administration and Finance

The successful applicant will:

  • support the team in scheduling meetings, including with external stakeholders and partners, and help prepare papers and other materials
  • help process invoices/reimbursements
  • support the Grants & Fellowships Manager in processing and archiving grant applications

Membership and Participation

The successful applicant will:

  • support the Networks & Learning Administrator in maintaining the membership databases and mailing lists for all the networks and learning programmes, and process membership applications
  • work with the Networks and Learning Administrator to maintain the online member directory on the BAN website
  • support the Grants & Fellowships Manager in processing applications

Websites and Communications

The successful applicant will:

  • support the team in the preparation and delivery of information on Grants, Networks & Learning programmes and activities for the PMC website
  • help prepare and deliver material in support of Networks’ social media presence and marketing mechanisms (including LinkedIn, Mailchimp)
  • provide support on the maintenance and smooth running of the separate BAN website

Events and Activities

The successful applicant will:

  • where required provide additional support in the delivery of events, activities, academic programmes and residential programmes organised by Grants, Networks & Learning
  • support the Grants & Fellowships Manager in organising travel and accommodation for members of the biannual assessment panels
