An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and newly qualified Solicitor to join Paul Crowley & Co’s highly regarded Criminal team based in Anfield. The successful candidate will have experience in or is interested in making the switch to Criminal Law. You will have a high degree of self-management and initiative to help navigate a full caseload.

Person Specification & Requirements:

  • Strong time-management and ability to manage a caseload.
  • Knowledge and experience of Legal Aid.
  • Genuine passion for criminal law.
  • Commercially minded.
  • Personable, confident and articulate communicator.
  • Pro-active and ‘can do’ attitude.
  • Starting to build own referral source would be advantageous.
  • Duty Solicitor accreditation or willing to work towards.
  • May have some knowledge and experience of Lexcel Compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the effective management and advisory service of all aspects of allocated Criminal Law cases.
  • Represent clients at hearings and court trials.
  • Attend allocated Duty Solicitor slot as agreed and ensure duty solicitor compliance.
  • Attend and comply with ‘on call’ responsibilities and duties as agreed.
  • Negotiate plea negotiations, punishments, and settlements.
  • Providing advice and guidance to other members of staff within the Criminal Department.
  • Drafting legal documents and various court applications.
  • Undertake any specific training when required and to have overall responsibility towards self-development.
  • Legal Aid work.
  • Be actively involved in ensuring compliance in Lexcel and other standards.
  • Ensure the confidentiality of all the firm’s and client’s documentation and information.
  • Be actively involved in marketing and business development activities and networking.
  • Undertake any other duties as required by the Directors as necessary for other fee earners and members of staff.
