The role of the Senior Merchandise Planner is to drive efficient and sustainable Marketplace growth through effective demand planning and inventory management for our European brands. This position is pivotal in defining buying strategies and tactical plans to generate growth, ensuring that sales forecasts and buy plans are directly linked to sell-out performance. The Senior Merchandise Planner will manage their own brand portfolio and contribute to overall product category performance, standardizing forecasting and other processes across the category.
This role is accountable for a portfolio of brand's performance, including revenue and stock health, working alongside a wide range of stakeholders within the business.
What is the day in the life of a Senior Merchandise Planner?
- Owns the end-to-end inventory performance and forecasting accuracy for a complex brand portfolio.
- Manages and is aware of overall product category performance, contributing to forecast and process standardisation across the category.
- Defines buying strategies and tactical plans to generate growth within Pattern and its partners, supporting multiple stakeholders.
- Regularly maintains and reviews line-level forecasts for their brand portfolio to reflect current sales trends, ensuring high ordering accuracy and smooth workflow.
- Reviews the logic of forecasting tools and algorithms, providing feedback and proposing solutions for ongoing improvements.
- Drives longer-term strategic discussions on accelerating brand growth or mitigating risks in collaboration with Ecommerce Management and Ads counterparts.
- Identifies broader category, country, and marketplace trends and takes pro-active actions to capitalize on opportunities or mitigate risks.
- Delivers complex medium to large-scale cross-functional projects from initiation through delivery.
- Proactively searches for and develops solutions for process, data, and tech challenges.
- Consistently challenges and optimizes processes to reduce lead times and improve stock turn/sell-through.
- Strategically manages ordering and intake for their brands, including building stock, arranging deliveries, and negotiating terms on purchase orders.
- Presents to external clients, leading discussions around Buying Strategy and Sell-In/Sell-Out forecasts.
- Provides analytical and actionable insights into forecast deviations and future implications.
- Works closely with brands to ensure order fulfillment and supply chain efficiencies.
What Will I Need To Thrive In This Role
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 6+ years working in a multiple category/brand merchandising or planning role.
- Proven experience in Demand and Supply Chain Planning.
- In-depth understanding of merchandising and trading approaches (ideally within branded apparel).
- Previous experience working with an eCommerce channel (e.g. D2C or Marketplace).
- Highly commercial mindset, considering both the customer and business needs.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, with strong Microsoft Office and PowerPoint skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working in a client-facing role.
- Past experience working in a fast-paced business environment - proven track record of senior stakeholder management and delivering on project deadlines.
