*Key Responsibilities *
Fabrication, Welding & Installation
- Assist with the design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning of new production lines and processing equipment.
- Support modifications, upgrades, and improvements to existing site process lines and infrastructure.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to plan fabrication and installation activities.
- Measure, mark out, and prepare materials accurately to ensure work is completed to specification.
- Fabricate metal structures, components, pipework, and process systems using stainless steel and mild steel.
- Perform high-quality hygienic welding suitable for food manufacturing and processing environments.
- Carry out TIG, MIG, MMA, and other welding processes as required.
- Complete welding activities in a variety of positions including vertical, horizontal, and overhead welding.
- Install fabricated components, pipework, and structures on site in line with project requirements.
- Support site projects from concept through to completion, ensuring quality workmanship throughout.
Equipment Repair & Maintenance
- Repair machinery, production equipment, and plant components through welding and fabrication techniques.
- Modify existing equipment to improve functionality, safety, efficiency, and reliability.
- Inspect welded surfaces, structures, and fabricated components to identify faults, defects, or quality concerns.
- Carry out preventative maintenance and repairs on fabrication and welding equipment.
- Maintain welding machines, power tools, and associated equipment in safe working condition.
- Support engineering and maintenance teams during plant shutdowns, breakdowns, and improvement projects where required.
Site Projects & Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to site development and capital investment projects.
- Recommend and implement fabrication and engineering improvements that enhance operational efficiency and equipment performance.
- Assist with the design and manufacture of bespoke components and solutions to meet operational requirements.
- Work closely with Engineering, Production, and Management teams to identify opportunities for process improvements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing downtime, improving reliability, and increasing production capability.
- Assist with factory layout changes, equipment relocations, and installation projects as required.
Quality & Technical Standards
- Ensure all fabrication and welding work is completed to the required quality and technical standards.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, engineering schematics, and fabrication specifications accurately.
- Verify dimensions, tolerances, and finished product quality before installation or project completion.
- Ensure hygienic welding and fabrication standards are maintained in line with food manufacturing requirements.
- Conduct inspections of completed work to identify and rectify defects before handover.
- Maintain high levels of workmanship and attention to detail across all projects.
Compliance, Food Safety & Documentation
- Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with company Food Safety, Quality, GMP, and Health & Safety requirements.
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, and statutory regulations.
- Complete relevant fabrication, maintenance, and project documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Support internal and external audits where required.
- Maintain traceability and documentation relating to fabrication and welding activities.
- Ensure all work areas meet regulatory and company compliance standards.
Health, Safety & Environmental Responsibilities
- Comply with all company Health & Safety policies, procedures, and safe systems of work.
- Operate welding equipment, power tools, access equipment, and lifting equipment safely at all times.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure safe working practices are followed.
- Report hazards, accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions promptly.
- Undertake manual handling activities safely and in accordance with training provided.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment at all times.
- Support and promote a positive health and safety culture throughout the site.
Teamwork & Collaboration
- Work effectively as part of the Engineering team.
- Build positive working relationships with Production, Quality, Planning, and Management teams.
- Communicate project progress, technical issues, and maintenance requirements clearly and effectively.
- Liaise with suppliers, contractors, and external engineers when required.
- Support colleagues and provide assistance during peak operational periods and key projects.
- Demonstrate a flexible and proactive approach to meeting business requirements.
Training & Development
- Participate in all mandatory and role-specific training.
- Maintain and develop technical welding, fabrication, and engineering skills.
- Undertake company-provided accredited training including PASMA, IPAF, Fork Lift Truck, and Emergency First Aid qualifications.
- Keep up to date with industry developments, welding techniques, and best practice.
- Support knowledge sharing and continuous learning within the Engineering team.
Additional Duties
- Carry out any other reasonable duties requested by the Engineering Team Lead, Maintenance Manager, or senior management team.
- Provide support across site engineering activities as business needs require.
- Be flexible in supporting installation, maintenance, and improvement projects across the site.
