The Mission

Patients Know Best (PKB) is the UK's largest patient portal. Our mission is to put patients in control of their health data. We are a team of ~40 Engineers and Product Managers building a platform that focuses on security, information governance, and empowering patients.

The Challenge

We are looking for a mid-level Product Manager with Healthcare Domain Experience. You will work closely with a Senior Product Manager to own the NHS App Integration. In your first 9 months, your primary focus will be on the integration between PKB and the NHS App. You will own the delivery and lifecycle of the integration between PKB and the NHS App. You will work within a development team and collaborate with UX, IG, and Commercial teams to ensure the feature is useful, compliant, and viable. Other projects you manage will evolve over time in line with changing priorities and business needs.

Your Core Responsibilities

  • Roadmap & Backlog: Own the end-to-end product backlog. You'll be responsible for refining, prioritising, and writing the user stories that keep the dev team moving.
  • Requirements Discovery: Turn high-level goals and clinical needs into detailed technical requirements and acceptance criteria. Help to continuously refine and improve the product based on feedback.
  • Compliance & Safety: Navigate the "must-haves" for delivery, specifically Clinical Safety (DCB0129/0160) and Information Governance (IG).
  • Stakeholder Lead: Act as the primary point of contact for product-related queries from internal and external stakeholders. Ensure that clear and up-to-date supporting information is available on our wikis.
  • Verify "Done": Assist with release planning and communication. You'll test mid-project and do the final check before go-live.

Our Product Team Culture

We are a team of 5 people, working within the Engineering Department. We bring together the perspectives of users, internal and external teams to make product decisions and drive projects to completion. We are flexible, detail-orientated and take responsibility for our work. We value clear communication and work together as a team to maintain product quality.

What We Are Looking For

  • Healthcare Experience: You have experience shipping products in the healthcare domain and understand the complexity of health data. Familiarity with regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, NHS standards) and key technical interoperability protocols (e.g., FHIR, HL7) and clinical terminologies (e.g., SNOMED CT) relevant to secure health data exchange is a significant advantage. Knowledge of international quality/security standards (e.g., ISO) is a plus.
  • Communication: You write clearly and concisely. You can run meetings effectively. Experience responding to tenders or completing health data standards assessments is a plus.
  • Autonomy: You're happy to pick up a project and run with it, asking for help when you hit a wall rather than waiting for a nudge.
  • Project management: You have managed projects successfully. You enjoy problem-solving to find pragmatic solutions that will keep the project moving.
  • User-focused: You keep the perspective of the user and are comfortable mapping out user-journeys. Experience with the Atlassian suite (e.g., Jira and Confluence) for managing product development is a plus.
  • Evidence-led: You can turn data and customer feedback into actionable insights. Experience with product analytics tools (e.g., Looker Data Studio, Holistics) is a significant advantage.
  • Flexible: You are a team-player and are ok with pivots.

Benefits

  • 25 days holiday FTE plus bank holidays.
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay and leave.
  • Company social events (including internationally - our last all company meetup was in Lisbon).
  • Opportunity to really make a difference – your work will make life better for millions of patients.

How We Work

  • Remote & Flexible: Work from where you feel most productive. We focus on output, not hours in a seat.
  • Flat-ish Structure: You don't have to become a manager to progress here. We value and reward expert individual contributors.
  • Diversity: We have a diverse team and we prioritise a respectful, kind environment.

Patients Know Best is an equal opportunity employer. We handle sensitive health data, so we care deeply about security and trust, and we care equally about building a team where everyone feels safe to contribute.
