Contract: Permanent
Location: Coalville, Nottingham, Rutland and Northamptonshire
Reporting to: Clinical Project Manager / Head of Nursing
About the role
Patient Care Locally (PCL) is looking for an experienced and motivated Practice Nurse to join our growing clinical team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a nurse who enjoys working directly with patients and wants to play an important role in delivering accessible, locally based healthcare services across our communities.
Working as part of our clinical team, you will support the delivery of services through our Roving Health Units, GP practices and other community settings. You will deliver vaccinations, undertake a range of practice nursing activities and support health promotion, particularly in areas experiencing deprivation and health inequalities.
You will work both independently and as part of a wider multidisciplinary team, using your clinical knowledge and professional judgement to provide safe, effective and patient-centred care.
What you will be doing
Your role will include:
- Delivering vaccinations through our Roving Health Units and supporting vaccination programmes within GP practices.
- Providing a range of Practice Nurse services, including wound care, ECGs, venepuncture, immunisations, new patient medicals and women's health.
- Undertaking cervical cytology and other relevant clinical procedures within your scope of practice.
- Requesting pathology tests, processing results and advising patients appropriately.
- Supporting health promotion and raising awareness of vaccination and wider health issues.
- Maintaining accurate and timely clinical records using systems such as SystmOne.
- Supporting effective infection prevention and control, including safe management of specimens, PPE, sharps, waste and clinical environments.
- Maintaining appropriate stock levels and ensuring vaccines and clinical equipment are safely managed.
- Identifying and escalating clinical, health and safety or quality concerns appropriately.
- Working collaboratively with GP practices, colleagues and other healthcare organisations to meet patients' needs.
- Working within relevant policies, protocols, professional standards and your own scope of practice.
- Contributing to service improvement, quality initiatives and the ongoing development of the team.
The role will involve travelling across the locality and working flexibly to meet service requirements.
About you
We are looking for a Registered Nurse with current NMC registration who has experience working at the relevant level within general practice or community nursing.
Experience in immunisations or cervical cytology is essential for this role. You must have practical clinical experience in at least one of these areas.
You will ideally also have experience in areas such as:
- Wound care
- ECGs and venepuncture
- New patient medicals
- Women's health
- Infection prevention and control
- Safeguarding adults and children
- Clinical governance and evidence-based practice
You will be comfortable working autonomously, managing your own workload and making appropriate clinical decisions, while recognising when advice or referral to a GP or senior nurse is required.
You will also need excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with patients, carers and colleagues across a range of settings.
To be considered for this role, you must:
- Hold current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse.
- Have relevant Practice Nurse or Community Nurse experience.
- Have practical experience in immunisations or cervical cytology.
- Be able to work autonomously and within your professional scope of practice.
- Have a good understanding of safeguarding, infection prevention and clinical governance.
- Be committed to maintaining your professional development and NMC revalidation requirements.
- Have access to your own transport and be able to travel across the locality.
- Have flexibility to work outside core office hours where required.
