A leading defendant litigation practice is seeking a newly qualified to 2 years PQE Solicitor to join its growing insurance litigation team in Belfast. The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload of litigated Employer’s Liability and Public Liability matters within the County Court jurisdiction. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established and supportive team with strong expertise in insurance defence litigation and clear opportunities for career progression. The role offers exposure to high-quality work, a collaborative working environment and the opportunity to develop specialist expertise within defendant litigation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a caseload of Employer’s Liability and Public Liability claims within the County Court jurisdiction
  • Handling litigated matters from instruction through to resolution in line with client requirements
  • Communicating effectively with clients, colleagues and third parties including insurers, insured parties and witnesses
  • Interviewing witnesses and preparing witness statements
  • Drafting pleadings, court applications and other legal documentation
  • Instructing Counsel and attending consultations, conferences and mediations
  • Attending court hearings, settlement conferences and trials where required
  • Proactively identifying next steps within cases and progressing matters efficiently
  • Maintaining accurate case management records and reporting updates where required
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant professional regulations and internal procedures

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Qualified Solicitor in Northern Ireland with up to 2 years PQE
  • Litigation experience is desirable, ideally within insurance defence, though this is not essential
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Good advocacy and negotiation abilities
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and prioritise workload effectively
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Proficient IT skills and experience using case management systems
